What to start with?
I'm a beginner at LFS and I'm not sure where to start. With the different tracks, different cars, and different setups, what do you think the best starting point is? I was thinking it would make sense to start playing with the UF 1000 because it is the slowest car and probily the most forgiving. I've also played around with the FOX and the LX6 and have enjoyed racing those. I play with a mouse (I haven't bought a steering wheel yet but I plan too soon, I'll get one around Christmas time) so driving a rear-wheel drive car without having problems with oversteer is difficult for me.

I was going to go through each track with the UF 1000 learning the proper lines until my times were decent. Is the the Best way to learn this game?

Thanks for you advice
Hello and Welcome

When you have played the Demo before, i would say you should stick to blackwood for a while and check out all the cars (go in order, from low to high engine power). Once you have some favorit cars try em at other tracks. Get used to the physical behavior of your vehicle, improve yourself on the track & in the field. Enjoy every race, dont get mad when its not happen like you wish and keep moving forward (Wrong Way sucks, Ghostdrivers gets booted )

And get a Wheel damn it !!

Cheers

Some people try every vehicle/ track/ layout combo in shortest time but i think this is stupid, the surprise effect is gone. You will play this game a long time, at least i thought this way and i was right. Maybe i know the tracks and most of the corners, but there are still some combos/ layouts ive never tried. Right now for example, im not really in the mood to drive the bf1 @ bl rally but im sure that could be fun, for at least 1 lap or so
Just have a general intrest in cars and want to be fast! Or just have fun, It really depends on what you want todo with LFS.

I suggest racing the FXO and the RB4 and possibly the XRT - These cars are pretty well balanced with good power and stability to help you learn a little more then using a slower car (UF1).

If you can master these cars then changing to another vehicle wont be so difficult, unless of course its the FOX or BF1 which require a different type of driving altogether.

Thats just how Im doing it with great success so far! Here are a few tips to make note of:

1) Setups are vital and the correct one will help you win a race, But at the same time its only a setup and its still the drivers job to drive clean and fast.

2) Follow faster racers lines and learn where they brake and turn and what not, you'll soon be fast enough to keep up with them!

3) Dont push to hard for hours and hours, this just gets you frustrated and often makes you alot slower! Just have some fun!!

I'd agree, any of the TBOs would be a good choice for a newbie mouser. All are easily controlled with the mouse and provide fun racing. Represent a very different style of racing to the FOX.
The thing about LFS is this. It takes some effort to improve your skills to a level that will allow you to enjoy top quality online racing. Until you get to that point you'll be struggling with the back markers and all hell often breaks loose

So my advice is choose a car (the FOX is extremely popular so lots of public races - easy to drive too.) and stick with it for at least a couple of weeks. That way you'll get fast enough to enjoy some quality on-line battles.

Then once you get bored, try another car.

Good luck
try driving xf gti (even if you're sick and tired of it) on the popular tracks, for example - aston national, you should know the track you're racing on. i hope you will improve in nearest future, just remember that you need time to learn. i've been racing xf gti for years in the demo, but after purchasing the license i'm trying other cars, its hard to learn and i'm in the back of the race very often.
i hope you'll improve in the nearest future, see you

The FOX is easy, but the TBO's recover so much better due to A. Not all being RWD, and B. Having road tyres, as slicks seem to "drop off" grip when you get sideways, while the road tyres tail off in a semi-linear way, making it slightly more predictable

Have you done the lessons in LFS? I found that was a pretty good introduction to many of the cars and fun at the same time.

After you've tried the cars you'll have some favorites and other you don;t quiet like as much. Stick with the ones you like to race and just try different tracks, that way you won't get bored.

Another good way is to join a League which has set cars and tracks and you have to practice that combo. Ofcourse you have to know which car you like first.

As others have said the FOX is easy to drive and be quick on so that you're not always last. When I first got lfs I remember jumping on a server not even knowing the track with the FOX and wasn;t ending up last most races.

But I recommend go straight to the GTRs If you've come from the demo having driven the XFG or XRT then you'll love the speed and relative ease of transition with which you can just hop in the XFR or FZR and have a really fun time.

Download the wr sets from teaminferno and practice offline first before going online otherwise you'll just be a moving obstacle and ending up last and not having fun.
Welcome here, Sicarius, I hope you will enjoy your LFSing. Only thing I can recommend you and what hasnt been already said is: Be patient.

When I first jumped at As Nat with XRR, I simply tought that I will never achieve times droven by guys that had more skills than me. Now I am just 2.1 secs behind WR there(yeah, stills sucks, but not that much ), able to have a good racing. Keep up the work and you will improve.

And just BTW, there are sites like www.turnfast.com where you can read some useful driving tips. Maybe you should start there to prevent yourself of learning bad habits.
I think I'm going to start out with the FOX. Thanks for all the help
Good choice! I also started out with the fox. (After 1.5 weeks with XRT demo) I havent been 'into' another car since I got my license.

I'm not sure what car I should pick next.
