The online racing simulator
Texture Packs, Visuals, Tracks and so on...
Firstly. The game looks pretty damn good in it's current official state.

But as a result of clickign a few adds on the main page, I have been wading through the gigantic number of websites and threads about texture packs and the like. As a result I have a coupla noob questions to try and save myself potentially weeks of reading and experimentations...

Is there one "undisputed grand master" TRACK TEXTURE PACK install of Graphical Track Updates that can be installed for the whole game? And is it or are they safe? What with all the updates and all that come out officially?

Is there an OFFICIALLY SUPPORTED one that won't bork my LFS install down the road?

Is this just higher res textures? Or has someone actually gone and updated the engine to DX9 features?

Hope I am not being too lazy. I searched and have been reading but there is soooo much.

I play another game (Freespace2) where there is alot of ongoing modding and it as nice to just grab the "one pack" that was univerally understood to be of the best and safest graphical boost and get back to playing. Was hoping that was the case here.

Just higher res/different textures. They are not "officially" supported, but they are so simple that it's impossible to ruin the LFS install.

Don and KiDCoDEa's HiRes Skies are a must, IMO.

I don't think there's a complete texture pack for all tracks, but you can definitely find some better textures for individual track locations in the Miscellaneous Addons section.

AFAIK there are no official extra texture packs. The ones that are avilable have been made by the public and its use them at your own risk. I have the blackwood and Aston dark asphalt texture packs installed and think they look great, and no problems at all. I've also changed the interiors of some cars without any problems.

Another thing worthy of mention are the high res skies which look awesome and the relfection mod which ads a very cool shine and reflection to the cars.

The ones I've tried have all been safe to use and haven't stuffed up my lfs at all, if I don't like a texture its easy to just unzip the original and overwrite it.

So basically just try which one suits you and don't worry about stuffing up your lfs because it's very hard to do
Sweet thanks!

Any meantion as to wether or not the dev team will add their own higher res stuff and extra shine stuff to the game at some point? I have not seen discussion on that aside from the "graphics need an update" type threads.

Bigger graphics improvements are planned for S3, but Eric will probably be updating some stuff before that, I read that he is/was working on updates for Kyoto.

Another good place to check out: http://www.lfs-database.com/

Personally I use Kid and Don's skies, Electrik Kar's track textures and the brake disc textures you can find in the link above.
Hey thanks everyone.
