Now, thats done it...> Broken PC :(
Ha ha, embarrasing-yes, em me computer won't start up:

I need help, I have no idea what to do when a computer won't log directly into your account> it sayes ...loading personal settings> then the log out 'Dong' sounds and then it "Closing network connections", and goes into the XP limbo screen ...

Safemode, still the same on "Peter" account, but there is an exttra user acc. there "Adminastration" wtf!?
I click on the tat acc.,and nothing...it just sayes "lOADING.... for ages

Help what to do
..damn this mac
You can't log in as Administrator either? Either you got a virus, or you seriosly borked something yourself :P It probably could be fixed, but TBH, its easier just to reformat and reinstall everything :\ You can try the "Last Known Good Configuration" option in the boot menu and see if that works, but in my experience it rarely does.

If you have data on there that you need to save, there's a few ways to get in there to back it up.

Format is a no no
Last known config....same shit.
.....
Don't reformat yet. First, try to boot from the WinXP CD and run a repair installation. This will re-install the core operating system while leaving all of your data files in place. To boot from CD, you may need to change the boot device order in your BIOS.

A repair installation does NOT wipe your HDD. I understand you're frustrated but at least make an effort to read and understand suggestions before going off on a rant. And on that note, I'm done being helpful. Good luck with your problem.

Yes...sorry I failed to explain how my laptop does not have a windows cd, its got a "system recovery cd" made by /toshiba- its very crude in the shit way its made>just total wipe n' restore funtion...............

/how does one use the 'network boot'?
Network boot, allows a device to boot from an image stored remotley IIRC.

What do you mean by the "XP Limbo Screen"?

Basically re-images the hard drive. I will admit it is annoying. If you were near I would've lent you my PCMCIA card + cdrom drive

Depends on what you're talking about - PXE, or other means. Unless you've got an image or RIS server or some other form of installation, you'd be lucky.

Something like Unattended would do a network reinstall. Its been a while since I've used it properly though..

Back on topic:
Safe mode still does the same?

... yeah safe-m the same...there has to be a way
to get into my acc. no password or nothin'

Unattend requires .exe's to be installed- which I cant even log on,so?
How would I choose what ip the "network boot" uses/asks?

Ok, after some searching I have found where the problem lies:
I think I may have deleted userinit.exe, ms.com sayes it has something todo with user acc.
My problem: How to get command prompt up at startup, where to get userinit.exe, and how to put in the sysyem folder?
I wouldn't reccomend using the repair function on a Win XP CD, unless it has SP2 embedded, it would cause more problems than it'll solve.

If you really are missing that file, you'd need a boot disk to get into a command prompt. Google it, and make sure it supports NTFS, or try bootdisk.com. How to obtain userinit.exe is a whole different story. Going about repairing a WinXP installation without the actual install disk is going to prove to be very difficult.

I have a toshiba laptop as well, and it didn't come with a WinXP CD either.

One thing you can do to gain access to your filesystem is download a Linux "Live CD" but I don't know how familiar you are with that OS. Atleast with a Live CD you can see if userinit.exe is missing or not and allow you to backup files in case you do end up needing to reformat.

Thanks for the idea's guy's.
I've just lost a lot of important photo's,music and other personal data that is gone for good.
It was not possible to/or just dont have the know-how; to load all the ms support tools at startup, maybe I could have made a boot disk from another pc or somethin but I just dont have a lot of time for these things lately.

Yep I'm just another fool that lost some stuff because I never backed up anytimes, the most important data lost was pics, I believe picassa lets you upload your pics there, so I'll go that way from now on.

Damn Toshiba for the way they made their Hardware, apart from having no option to "replace" the sys files ONLY, it interface on that silly CD is ghastley, like something from the '70s.
unlucky mate
Bummer man. I lost all the pics from when my first daughter was born because of that. The worst part was, the wife bought me a CD burner for Christmas and being the huge procrastinator I am, I never installed it. I had planned on burning all my pics to CD, but the computer crashed before I did that.
There are basically two things you want to backup. Passwords/aliases and all stuff you have made yourself. Anything else is easy to get "back"...

In fact I think I'll do some backupping tomorrow. I have that dvd burner but haven't used it even once to burn anything.

Too bad they don't make 500gb dvd disks.

Exactley what just happened to me baby pics and stuff

Anyway the saga continues: I dusted off the old Vietcong box and decided to give it a whirl giving the last time I played it was about a year and a half now.
But as you all know Im on a 'fresh' os, and I think I've done the basics ie:windoze update, dirextx, gfx drivers, the lot.

I installed the four disk game three times now, and it is still doing nothing, it wont even load the game, just does nothing!
Have I forgotten something?
Oh, and I wish I would have read this thread before you wacked and restored your windows. It appears that you are on a second PC to post here, unless you are at work. To save your stuff before restoring windows, you could have pulled the drive and installed it in the other PC as a second slave drive, then moved any personal data and pics over to that PC.
You can still save the data, just use a linux live dvd or cd. You can d/l it on a friends computer. xD
