btw I just installed U35 and had a quick go in the LX4 against some AI. Love the new sounds! It's a lot more immersive now and sounds great at low revs too. Good stuff guys  Looking forward to heading home and trying the other cars now.
Hoooraay. Finally some good news! This will shut up the "main page doesn't get updated often enough" crowd for about half a month.
But I can already see what's coming. About two hours after release we will get about 15 threads complaining about the new sounds, and a crapload of whiners ranting that they want new cars and tracks, hell we even have them now! Then we get about two to three requests on how to have the patch V features mixed with the U sounds. Shortly following will be a considerable amount of first posters, asking in hundred different ways why we didn't get [feature X that would've needed an incompatible patch]. Random moans about how the patch didn't fix "important" things or took way too long for so little change are thrown in here and there. Moderators will hate the day, merging, moving and deleting a heapload of double, triple or quadruple requests, questions and improvement suggestions. The player counts will probably spike again, but not as high as normally as the patch contents are widely known now, but the racing shortly after the patch will be of low quality due to all the sound discussion and messing around (and moaning that the physics still haven't been "fixed". Them damned ice roads!). Finally after a week or so the masses will cool down and the usual practice of asking when the next patch will arrive is starting up again. Oh and lets not forget the few hardcore LFS love-haters who threaten to leave LFS forever because of [new feature Y].
Well, I don't have the time to read through that and it's too boring.
In one of the test patches, the laptimes/split times and flags were shown even in Shift+F mode, I want that back or as an option... Or is it? Don't wanna make a thread/post somewhere else about this, seemed nice here Had to add something eh
Actually by now I'm quite in favor of the new sound system. The improvements on the FXR show that it is capable of good sounds. Now please postpone christmas by a month so Scawen has enough time to work on good sounds for all cars. That'd also give me more time to buy christmas presents.
That is what is going to happen... and it is quite reasonable. Think about it, if you weren't checking these forums and wouldn't have played LFS for a long time and suddenly you'd see "patch released! sound improvements!" on the front page, what would you expect? To prevent this maybe best to not mentioned it at all or with a more truthful term like "slightly tuned sound engine" or something similar.
Well, if more cars were added, the hosts would be more inclined to let you use them on their servers so it's more about car improvement than track improvements IMO for me.
I don't know what does it for me but i just seem to like to be able to mess about there... Some people like to just race time after time after time whereas some like me like to relax lol
Me too, and I'm most impressed by how much they've improved since the initial test patch (33?). After that little hiccup, Scawen has fixed the sound issues damn quickly, and LFS is sounding great. And I'm not even mentioning the other improvements (the auto updater is GOLD).
I agree. When I started with the test patches, I kept the original (U.05) version saved in a seperate folder. After playing the game for some time tonight, I reverted to the old version just to compare. Although I'd already grown used to the new sounds, it was an eye opening experience to step back and evaluate the new sounds for what they are - Improvements in the old sounds - not a reinvention of the whole system.
All the improvements are subtle, not in your face. But then, that's LFS, isn't it ?
Any of "the V patches", meaning V1, V2, etc. will always be compatible to version V and U, and thus can not contain any changes regarding the driving model. What you'd want to wait for is patch W, which is probably going to be the next incompatible patch.
Any test patches we get will always be compatible ones, so don't get your hopes up of testing new physics or somesuch.
This isn't a real sim till we get pit girls ( or boys, menu option ) & no mention of them in the update.
Thats it, I'm leaving, never play again moan moan moan etc.........
& back to the real world, sounds are a great improvement, hadn't played 4 a couple of weeks & wow......
I've got my crissy present & stuff everyone else.
Have a great whatever you celebrate & see you on the track.
