The online racing simulator
A good example of cockpit sound
Now that we are talking about sound, and to separate the discussion from the patch thread I prefer to post this here.

I've found this clip in youtube that IMO shows very well the sounds that are heard in a cockpit while racing. Especially the "relative" volumes of each sound (engine, tyres, off track gravel...). They are stock hatchs at Donnington, and apart from the sound thing, it's a good race, some good action

Hope it helps.

yea helps loads m8!
ermmm...
Well, I think LFS tries to replicate the sound you hear when you are wearing ear plugs and a helmet. It still needs to be coded to switch to non-helmet (non-muted) sound simulation when using other views than in-car.

I really hope it's not deliberately muffled I guess not as every new test patch sounds less muffled

lol at the stock hatch driver

Great find, I really liked how the black peugeot cut the corner at the last chicane

As far as I know (I think I saw Scawen say this somewhere in the patch thread), this is not true. The sound is meant to be pre-helmet. (this is probably why the wind sound is so loud in the formulas)
Why is it always the people with their camera taped in the car who start going down the grid from the start...

I guess they must have really heavy camera's, or spend too much time on youtube and not enough racing!!

LMAFAO at the grumpy stock hatch driver footage, so funny, absolutely wet myself.

Which one is true then that post wasn't clear, I can't beleive the muffled sounds in the recent test patches was attepmpting to simulate wearing a helmet seeing as it effected the external cameras.

Well, if that is so then the sound needs a lot of EQ and tuning love. Because now it sounds like the helmet stuff.

Bad recording or something in first one, sound is kind of fluctuating, eh don't know proper word.
Same with 2nd.

Road cars and race cars do have also very different sounds as race cars typically do have sound proofing removed, I think that from those cars it has been removed too.
