my system spec:
P4 2.8 ghz
radeon 9800pro 256
2 gig of ram
win xp pro unpatched

with lfs P & early U, i normally get 80-100 fps, but not after i patch to U20 & now the newer patch V my fps drop significantly to average around 10 to 20. im not sure what cause this, i had already read similar thread problem relating to fps problem like turning off VS, fps limiter, minimum sleep time etc but with no luck. im very very dissapointed, i play LFS since it came out without any singel problem like this, everything is smooth as silk, just now i cant think of anymore solution for my self. i had try reinstalling my windows many times, defrag here and there, oh and i dont use software firewall and antivirus or any other application running on the background except for my ati control panel, internet download manager, steam, and winzip were running on the background, thats it. oh and my ati driver, processor driver, are all up to date to the latest.

if anyone can help me with this problem i had, i'll consider to buy LFS S2 right after my problem solve

First off patch up your XP and get an anti virus scanner. You're crazy for not having an up to date windows install or anti virus atleast.

Try raising minimum sleep and check to see if HVS is enabled. Make sure you don't have AA or AF on either they can take a huge performance hit.
woah after turning down z buffer from 24 to 16 problem seems to dissapear, average fps around 80-100. amazing what i have done

i still dont trust any antivirus, firewall, windows update installed on my PC, my winxp seems running well without them but may cause problem if im installing them

Do a Virus scan and say that...

Anti Virus programs are there to HELP your PC, I'm running Windows XP Pro SP2 (Massive Improvement on Unpatched, a lot less bugs and stuff) with NOD 32 Anti Virus, does me well.

If you don't run any antivirus programs, your an idiot...

Your PC is a lot safer behind an Anti Virus program and some Anti Spyware/Adware/Malware programs like Spybot Search and Destroy, and Ad Aware

Just don't get McAfee.

I would SERIOUSLY recommend getting AntiVirus, there are so many things out there on the internet that can really mess your PC up.

haha you don't trust anti virus or patches? what about your operating system? I bet microsoft use it to spy on you. Wait, how about your cpu and motherboard. I bet the manufacturers implanted trojans into the hardware to get your credit card details. :nut:
You don't trust them? Sounds more like your PC won't pass the genuine licence test for updates

Setting up AVG (anti virus), and Zone Alarm (free edition) will increase the security of your computer considerably. Having a copy of Ad-Aware around and doing a weekly scan will also help. I've not had a virus on my system in years but it doesn't hurt to keep a scanner in the background. More useful than keeping a download manager and Winzip systray in the background, thats for sure.

long time ago when i was really noob i always worry about spyware, adware, incoming attack or someone could take over my pc, thats bullshit, i never thrust microsoft alert anymore since i use opera, im sure opera will eliminate those spyware/adware before they can even enter my pc, oh and im a fan of P2P client too like torrentspy, donwloading some games, music and adult movies so far i get no problem whatsoever. and this is what i've been done so far for the last almost 1 year now
sometime trojan also can be usefull, you know the rfactor mod like zonda has trojan in it, if i delete them my system start to choke up, i think its safe not to install antivirus so no antivirus can tell me which application has trojan or not

there always some alternative way to download the updates for you windows so this is kind a odd thing you know

Worrying about spyware, spam or viruses isn't noob. Leaving your pc unprotected is noob and stupid.

Opera doesn't stop everything, I use Opera and my AV (NOD32) has detected a few trojans that Opera let through and stopped them.

Guess there's no convincing you, because you can't even tell if your pc is sick or not if you don't have any detecting software installed. I bet you'd find a few bugs if you installed a good AV.

since when opera did manage to block known virus like trojan
as far as i know opera browser can only usefull to block light to medium spyware/adware but if you're going to some illegal sites like www.cracks.com they ussually attacking your pc before you open their web, my advice just stay away from that sites then you'll be fine

Thanks alot! you just gave me a worm... Just Kidding :P
You guys are WAYYYYYY too constricted to what you hear. Let me explain...
I've had XP Home for 3 years, with NO anti-virus, NO anti-spyware, and NO firewall. And my PC has not gaven up, or slowwed down, or got full of viruses. I don't get why people having unprotected PC's is such a big deal.
~Bryan~
Because, dropin_biking, virus' are suppost to be hidden and slow you down gradually untill it does something that you really dont want. People protect their PC's because they have important things. Do you even know if you have a trojan in your computer?

i used to think that - even with my meticulous surfing i didn't get any virus', but a fair bit of Adware just for a few weeks without AV or a Firewall - i didn't even know until i ran Ad-Aware
Been on the net since 1999 or so. No active antivirus, adaware, firewall software running. I do have them and let them scan now and then, but I don't have them running actively. I've never had a problem with anything, ever.

Work however, the IT department scanned one of the computers and cleaned it with spybot, spyware blaster, adaware, and several others. He deemed it clean. It was still running like crap. I happened to have a copy of PestPatrol. I loaded it, scanned, and found 800+ hijackers and pests. IT has since gone to Microsoft Networking instead of Novell to eliminate this problem illepall .

Well, being a computer technician, web designer, and software developer, I know my way around computers. I've been cleaning out infected computers for almost a year now, and I've been through my registry so many times its not even funny, and no, I don't have any Trojans, or spy-ware, or virus' (not including the ones I make)

well, thats different... if you werent a virus making fiend I would have thought different
Haha I don't fiend it, I just like the fact I have a 3kb .txt file that blows up computers.
~Bryan~
Thats not good to know.

Wonder if he's cracked LFs yet.
Who me? Well, I don't play a cracked version of LFS, but I'm ripping apart the cracks I found on the net to see how they work, then I can show the developers so they can kill the loophole.

I've got a Mcafee with my Dell. F&%$*"$ terrible!!
It's not Mcaffee thats terrible. It's the fact that you have a retail model Dell. Reformat it, magnetize your MOBO (Not recomended) and THEN your good for an XP Install, and software management before you have a half-assed PC.
~Bryan~
ah, and you say you arent a nub? Reformat? That is the most noobish thing you can do trying to fix a PC.

Also, magnetize your motherboard? wtf is that going to do, everything on it is solid state.

Oh, one more thing, you are 14. stfu and stop giving out false information.

Also, send me your txt file, I would like to see it destroy my computer.
