Career Mode.
NO! NOT ARCADE MODE!
But more of a structure that incorparates the driving lessons with access to the cars in a kind of ladder system> doin the various liscenses unlocks better cars/tracks.
Which in turn could have a "Career Mode" type server with all the usual stuff, money etc, etc, etc...just to keep Tristancliff's masses happy

I got GTR2 and the first thing I did was unlock everthing I hate any game that forces you to do things their way One thing that makes LFS so great is you can choose to drive a different car every day or you can choose to drive the same car everyday whatever floats your boat...

For me I like to drive one car mostly and treat it like I would treat track days or race meets in real life, which is also why I mainly go for the road cars

Well the first thing I done with any game like that was unlock everything before I drove it???..but I suppose some people are different!

When I got GTL and saw that I couldn't immediately drive all cars I thought that GTL sucks (for the third time, and I hadn't yet driven it) and googled for a cheat to drive all cars.

Though I would appreciate an *additional* career mode. All cars available in free practice, but only your virtually bought cars in career mode.

...it would be a good way to get practice in all cars/tracks at one's own pace too

+1 as long we can keep the "single race"-option, something like the driving lessons. Career mode would be fun for those offline days, but it shouldn't keep you from training every possible combo offline

Well...what would work is 'intro' movies within career mode to better introduce the cars/tracks to the driver as he/she progresses through the career...dunno about you all but thats one part of LFS that took a while to get used too for me as a beginner.

Well I'm 39 years old and by this time in my life I'm not interested in stuffing around in some fantasy world of believing I'm an upcoming racing legend

I know what I am and I know my limitations all I want out of LFS is what is already there in a large way and that is a forum to meet with other like minded people and have some great races together

Having said that server's like Becky Rose has set up are a great addtion to the community and if there was a career like mode in LFS that was entirely optional I would not object to it

But for me personally it's not my cup of tea
+1 if it stays in the sincle Player.

The same with me. I thought GTR2 sucked when I couldn't drive the Hockenhiem arena track and the short versions

What would be acceptable is an offline championship mode with FR, TBO, LRF, LX4, FWDGTR, GTR, FOX, FO8 and BF1s. But no data of it stored on LFSW.
I think the best way to achieve something like this would be a number of online servers specific to the purpose, as LFS is really an online game and the AI really are not competetive after you've had LFS for 3 hours (I beat them on my first night in pro mode - then went to demo and got thrashed repeatedly).

The problem with doing this is that people will progress at different rates, and to have different races with different class cars would require more online players.

Perhaps if the servers had car combos at certain times on certain days of the week ie:

Clubman license/server: Monday UF1, Tuesday XFG, Wednesday XRG.
National B license/server: Monday FXO, Tuesday LX4
etc. etc.

Drivers would earn their race license and earn/spend money to buy cars and cover running costs/repairs on their car. All this, more or less, could be done with insim right now.

However to be worth it the servers would need to attract around 50 live players at any given time, in order to fill the different licenses on the server.

The problem with that is as far as 'custom' servers go we've already got 2-3 servers of STCC licensed racing, CLC's custom server, and odd compo club's custom server.

There's 5 servers already attracting large numbers of players to 'something different', in LFS online player terms, that's a significant proportion of players already doing things other than pickup racing.

Just how many custom servers are possible before they start to struggle to attract new racers or start hurting each others online player base?

I don't know

Yep, maybe 'Career Mode' would be more suited to 'off line', as the stcc setup work wonders on line.
I'm against unlockables, I hate any game that forces you to unlock stuff. I must admit the variety of cars and tracks available on LFS once you're licensed is rather overwhelming but you soon find something suited to you (9 times out of 10 it's the FOX on AS Club ).

I've nothing against a career mode if it was optional and doesn't become standard among servers, which I fear it will. The whole earning money, buying, selling etc just makes it too serious and takes the fun out of it, well for me anyways. I wouldn't like having to do cashflow projections and calculate break even points just to have a few races. Setting the car up properly is challenging enough .

In LFS your career is basically your pace on combos. You're always trying to get closer to the WR for a combo, so that should be the basis of any career aspect implemented in LFS. There's a thread somewhere where I suggested servers should restrict entry based on PB's. That would add a career mode of sorts wouldn't it? As you get faster you gain access to the 'elite' servers, but can practice and progress on the 'noob' servers with people of similar pace.

5 options at startup:
  • Training
  • Multiplayer
  • Career Mode
  • Single Player
  • Hot Lapping
If CM could be only allocated to offline play, and if we see the AI getting a brain transplant from peanut to say a hamster brain, then throwing a player into a 'Storyline' type mode with nice intro movies introducing cars and tracks to the driver as the progress through the career.
I just think it would be a nice feature to add to an obviously succesfull online 'multiplayer mode'.

I think it would be nice to be able to buy different tires (for free). That's all I would like though.
