Same gfx settings = 13fps avg. difference...NO IDEA WHY!
Hi folks.
It's like this i've often benchmarked lfs with the same singleplayer replay using fraps. Got to around 86fps average. Seems ok to me. Then some time passed and i started playing lfs again and i altered some minor gfx setting ingame. Then i ran the benchmark spr again and i got down to average of 74fps! I didn't know what's causing the difference so i tried 3 different gfx drivers, tried altering all possible gfx settings and i ended up with the same result, 74fps average. Then i've installed s2 to anotehr partition and overwrote the cfg file. Since then i get avg. 88fps, just like i should. In the graphics menu there's basicly no difference and i have no idea what's causing this massive fps difference!

Here i saved the 2 cgf.txt files. The one named cfg.txt.bak is the old one with gives me 74fps and cfg.txt wich gives me 88fps average. Try both and tell me if you get such fps difference, becouse i realy have no idea what's going on!
The reason you're getting different frame rates is because the settings are very different for the two configs. Here are just a few of the differences. I found a lot more, but these were the ones I think could have an effect on your frame rate:

***** cfg.txt
MP Draw Dist 160.00
Bias Mip -2.00
User LOD 0.9
Mirror LOD 0.2
Driver Pos View 1
Enable Mip Filter 0
Min Sleep 1

***** CFG.TXT.BAK
MP Draw Dist 150.00
Bias Mip 0.00
User LOD 0.8
Mirror LOD 0.1
Driver Pos View 0
Enable Mip Filter 1
Min Sleep 5

omg, rofl... "basicly no difference"
Like i said i tried various settings with the old cfg file and i allways got lower FPS! No matter if i've set LOD to 0 or 100, bias mip to -2 or 0, min sleep to 1 or 5, etc...nothing worked!
Then when i used the default s2 cfg file, then it worked ok! So i have no idea what's going on realy.
So, you're saying you've got two installs like the following:

1) Your "old" install which gets 74fps
2) A clean install which gets 88fps

If you copy the config from the "clean" install to the "old" install, the old install still runs at 74fps? And if you copy the cfg from the old install to the clean install, the clean install still runs at 88fps? So, essentially the config changes are making 0fps difference on either install. Is that correct?

If that is correct: Do you have custom textures, car skins, sounds, or ANYTHING that didn't come with LFS in the "old" directory? Large textures could be slowing it down.

I have to ask, if you have a clean install that's working fine and getting good fps, why not just use it and delete your old install that gets fewer fps? Why the struggle to get the old install to be faster when you already have a fast install up and running?
Thanks for your help Cue-Ball, i've found what the problem was. I was lying about minimum sleep, i never changed it in the old cfg file. Then i realisied it's set to 1 in the default cfg file and i had it set to 5 in my old cfg. That was the problem that resulted in 13fps difference.
I have no idea what this setting does except slowing down the gfx when u set it up higher than "1". Thanks again for your help!
