Can't get rid of AF [solved]
I'm having a serious problem here. I've been doing some performance tweaking here and there, and I've installed the latest NVidia drivers. When I fired up LFS to see if my FPS had improved, I noticed that it dropped to about 25, where 70 is normal. It looks like something enabled AF, because everything looks really sharp, where, before I started tweaking stuff, the lines in the distance became a bit blurry. Checked my drivers to see if AF was enabled, but it wasn't so I even forced them off. Still having AF in LFS. How can I turn this off?
#2 - Jakg
AF is off, its AA that is on (AA smooths the lines, AF does something different with litle performance hit)
I don't mean smooth edges, like those around the steering wheel. I mean the white stripes on each side of the asphalt. Those remain sharp for 500m ahead!
I've had problems with FSAA/AF. Though I have ATI card.

Usually for example if I play LFS first with FSAA, then I go the control panel and turn if off, in the game it's still enabled.

I have no idea what's the problem.
Weird, I get the other problem, I force FSAA on and it turns itself off. Older version of LFS were fine (or maybe older versions of the drivers?) but now minimising or windowing LFS results in FSAA loss, but only at my desktop resolution. It remains at any other resolution. Annoying since lower the desktop res is really chunky, and going higher makes my refresh rate drop to 75Hz which strains my eyes.

hrtburnout - it does sound like AF is stuck on, I can't think why though. Does it affect other games?
I'm going to check RACER now.

edit: It doesn't affect other games.
By the latest drivers you mean 97.31 release? IF its so, then disable that dumb new interface accesed by CP(rightclick on desktop>Properties>Advanced>Advanced>GeForce xxxx>Control Panel User Interface>Classic). The new interface is a bit buggy altough it has some more capabilities that the classic one. In classic interface disable AF and see if it works.
I am on classic interface, and I've disabled it already.
Are you sure it's not just something to do with the mip bias slider? Although that shouldn't cause a performance, but then neither should AF really. Even at 16x, AF shouldn't cause your FPS to drop from 70 to 25.

I'm assuming you've tried rebooting? And removing, cleaning, and re-installing your graphics drivers?
It has nothing to do with mip. I have an old Nvidia FX5600 256MB card, and AF does cause such a performance hit. I'm going to try a reboot now.
Are you sure it is AF what makes image looking sharper? If I have understood correctly to your explanation, I aslo think it is AF, but one never knows It can be just improved D3D image processing which makes image looking better, especially if you've updated from some quite outdated version.

What happens when you enable AF, any change in image appeance?
Good question, i'll try.
Wow! Even without enabling it, my FPS has increased to 75. I think it's because of the reboot. I don't know it exactly though, I should just try one thing at a time . Thanks guys!
