MoMo drivers in trouble?
Hya,

I was thinking of going a step further. I curently have the "speed link" SL-6695 wheel, which is not so bad. It has all the options and characteristics of a good product. Now my point. I heard rumours and read them in some forums that MOMO drivers are unhappy by the way the pedals work after some time of use. After two months it "softens", which means the power in the pedals reduce. Aproxemetly by 30%. The Momo wheel is also not so cheap, thats what bothers me. Do you get the right quality? Most of important does it last? I also looked at the "post your rig" thread and noticed a lot of you guys have this same wheel. I would like some coments. Not all products that cost so much are the best, or not?
I've owned the red MOMO Force for about 4 years now, and it has lasted for me ever since. It is just that I keep it well maintained because I hear all the rumours of it breaking (the pedals). So, normally about every 3-4 months, I take the pedal base apart, clean the joints of all the dirty grease, remove hair and grime, check cables and their connection, and then re-grease them with some plumber's lithium grease and put back together. As for the wheel part, I have only taken that apart once because I broke a clamp from tightening the wheel down on the table too much. But the wheel lasts, pedals don't (unless you treat them well). Oh and I also replaced the crappy flimsy springs with very high strength R/C car ones made for off road buggys/trucks (some of the hardest springs for any R/C car). Doing that makes the resistance in the pedals much nicer and lessens the 'beating' you would get with softer springs.

I dunno about the black MOMO Racing wheel, but I am pretty sure the same could be done to that wheel to make it last. Potentiometers don't necessarily go 'bad' unless you abuse them.
Thats nice to know, but a wheel is there to be "abused" apon I have mine for about three months now. Doesnt seem to make any trouble, but there are not so many racers that use the speed link wheel. So i dont get much comment on that subject. I think buying a momo is one step forward in enjoying LFS, or thats what i heard. So, got to take care of it, treat it like a child Doesnt sound interesting. Never the less, thank you for your response and explenation

Errmmm springs fit in the wheel? You mean the pedals?

Well, I think these are them (I think mine are taller), I can't seem to find the bag with my two spare.

(Team Associated Gold springs. US Manufacturer, so I don't know what you might be able to get a hold of in Germany)

And I wouldn't worry about a progressive spring for the brake pedal, these are stiff enough. At first, when I tried them they felt really stiff, and they bring the pedal back up pretty fast, but over time I've become used to it and it has helped my pedal control by a huge amount. Just make sure that whatever springs you get fits the diameter of the attachment button thingy on the pedal arm.

wheel was supposed to refer to the whole unit including the pedals

since asso is one of the most improtant manufacturers in pro rc racing it should be easy to find them anywhere in the world

its not just about stiffness its also about the realistic feel of the brakepedal

The Red Momo pedals are different to the Black Momo pedals. The Red ones were good, the black ones are not. The Logitech DFP also uses the same pedals as the black Momo and they have the same issues. Recently a new revision was manufactured using higher quality pots, but other problems remain.
All RC springs are progressive for the first two coils due to the way they're made. Think I might take my DFP pedals apart later and see what springs I can fit, got about 50 pairs of various truck/buggy/TC ones from 1:8 to 1:20 scale so something must fit.

Btw Atomic Racing make two-stage progressive springs that fit AE shocks, I picked some up off ebay US for my RC10T3 a few months ago.
