Auto Update In The Latest Patch:V
How does this work and where is it on the latest version of the game as I cannot see anything about it on the game its self.
It works when a test patch or a new patch altogether is released you get an alert when you go into mutiplayer and have the option of downloading it from lfs or another site with in the game
All you do is download the file from the lfs server from the list and it gets extracted into which ever folder you want it to and lfs reboots automatically
Well obviously that's how the system works. However, i was wondering if the updater automatically will install a TEST patch.
I do know it did at one point (U36?) but that was for testing purposes iirc. Keep in mind that test-patches always have been for those of us who are visiting the forum. Should all the lfs users be forced to evaluate test-patches all of a sudden? I would not think so
No it only downloaded the file you want all you have to do is select the lfs folder and overwrite the old files and lfs did the rest but i am not sure if ever lfs installed test patchs itself because it could screw up things that you are not aware of
The auto update system doesn't force you to download any of the patches, test or release. It offers you the option to download them. So, I'm guessing that test patches will show up on the auto downloader but will be marked as such so that you don't download it if you don't want to. Or, perhaps Scawen put in some sort of flag so that only flagged patches (major releases) trigger the auto-updater in the future?
seems like you guys somehow missed the time when there was a patch coming out almost every other day . if you download a older patch u, it should autodownload an update to patch v.
I would guess that patch V will only auto-update to patch W, but if there were to be a test patch V1 which was downloadable manually, that would then auto-update any other test patches.
one thing that strukc me as odd about the autoupdater is that it downlads all patches instead of only the latest one
the upside on this is that i now have the complete set of u testpatches ... downside is that dialuppers will be pissed
Nah, I went from U32 (or what ever the first one with the autoupdate was) to U36. I was worried, but it was fairly quick (around 1-1.3 mb each test patch).
I'm getting from the comments here that folks think it will auto update from say V to W automatically without any interaction. I doubt this would be true. You will still have to select that you want to update or not. To do it automatically without having the option not to would make any older patch unable to run ever again, which wouldn't be good for those who have replays from older patches and who want to make movies.
I never update the current working folder of LFS. I always copy the folder and update that one. Hence, it's why I still have S1H, S2K demo, S2L demo, S2P, Q, T, many many U tests, and V.
