Can't setup server.
So I read through the other posts and I followed AngryAngel's guide also but the best I could manage to do was connect to my own server using "Join Specific Game" and selecting "Local Network" with IP 127.0.0.1

How do I manage to get it to come on the main list of games ???

When I say "Join Specific Game" > "Internet" with my server name, it says
"Clientconnect : connect failed"

What could be wrong ?

Edit : I am using LFS dedicated server 0.5 V
Do you have a router? If so, are you trying to connect from the same PC, or from inside the same network, as the server is running on? It may be that it's actually running fine, but many routers cannot cope with the loopback required, so when you browse the in-game list it gets confused and doesn't allow a connection.

If you let us know the name of the server, we can try to connect as a test.

If you are getting people to connect from an entirely different place, and it still doesn't work;
* Do you have a firewall? Have you added LFS as a listening exception
* If you have a router, have you correctly configured the port forwarding?

Yes I have a router and I am trying to run it on the same PC.

"Yes" for both your questions.

I understand what you say, but I remeber doing this a couple of months back with my old PC and it worked well.

Server Name : Random

See if you can find it.

Thanks for the help.

Edit : Don't know when u'll find time so am leaving the server running. Just check 'whenever' you come.

have you forwarded the ports on the router?
i was having the same problem, but i joined in through lan, but no-one else could connect, they kept timing out.... my firewall is open to lfs and my router (dlink dsl504t ) iv opened the ports, as www.portforward.com explained..

i gave up in the end, but if anyone has any idea's fire away, as id love to get a server running..

p.s sorry for jumping in on your thread

@Jakg : Yes they are forwarded.

@niffer 022 : NP good to hear that I got company

EDIT : JUST checked LFSworld, my server is shown there in the list.
If its showing up in LFS world, but not in the in-game list, it means either;
* your router doesn't understand what to do (i.e. loopback, or incorrect port forwarding)
* something is blocking the connection

The something could be anything from a local firewall (be aware that adding it as a "normal" exception to the Windows firewall is not enough). It could be your port forwarding to the wrong LAN address (typical for people running non-static or pseudo-static IP addresses for their "server" machine), or it could be that your ISP is preventing access to the ports (many are doing this to prevent / slow down peer to peer traffic, such as bittorrent).

Other than the windows firewall...hmm...nothing to my knowledge.

Router firewall is not on.

No other antivirus or similar program running
How have you setup your Windows Firewall?

You should've done something like this:
Start > Control Panel > Windows Firewall
Select the Advanced tab
Select the appropriate network connection (in most cases there is only one connection), and click Settings
Click Add. Give it a Description of "LFS (TCP/63392)", set the Name or IP to 127.0.0.1, put 63392 as both Port Numbers, and select TCP. Click Ok.
Click Add. Give it a Description of "LFS (UDP/63392)", set the Name or IP to 127.0.0.1, put 63392 as both Port Numbers, and select UDP. Click Ok.
Make sure both of these are ticked and click Ok.
Click Ok to apply these changes to the Windows Firewall, and wait a few minutes.

If you're running LFS on a different port, change the port number as appropriate.

If you've not done this, the Windows Firewall will rejection connections from anywhere but localhost (127.0.0.1).

If that is correct check with your ISP to see if they reject connections on specific port ranges.
That is exactly how it is.

Guess I have to check with my ISP.

Thanks a lot for the help.
iv not done that, ill give that ago.. cheers mate

could someone see if theres a server called mk3oc racing server..... in demo please..
right iv done all that you said, i can get on through lan, and server said that someone tried to connect but timed out... iv been on lfs world and its showing my server in the list...

so why they timing out????
OK. These timing out messages were there on my server as well....about two or three of them.

I called up my ISP and found that there were no problems with them.

So I started experimenting with my router settings a little more. I played around with a lot of options but no success.

I think AngryAngel is right, ie my dumb router is not programmed to understand what to do when there is a loopback.
it works 2 people have just connected cheers guys
Finally managed to get it working.....phew

Well the problem was with my router. My router is actually a router + modem combined. I figured out that when it works as a router + modem i.e when I enable bridging, the port forwarding doesn't work....but when it works only as a modem, the port forwarding works perfectly !!!

The server runs now...thanks AngryAngel

One more thing 256 kbps / 55 kbps how good is this for a server withh 11 cars ?
You could run 11 cars on a 256Kb/s upload, but you'd have to use a PPS of 3 or lower. The lower the PPS (packets per second), the slower the server tells the clients about changes. 3 should be ok, provided you're not planning on running bumper to bumper BF1 races
Whats a good bandwidth for lag free + house full racing ?
iv got a problem with my server now, when i put in commands its not doing anythiing... i cant talk to the guys racing, restart, change tracks or laps.. nothing.... it was fine this morning....

i think ill restart it when everyones left the server...
