I know this will be far cooler once weather effects are implemented, but, I'd really like it if the clear and overcast functions could be synched on server with an RSS weather feed for a similar locaiton in real life.

using something like this perhaps?

http://www.rssweather.com/icao/EGLC/wx.php
something similar to this has been mentioned a few times before.
i like the idea. i think what was mention before wa to have LFS make up it's own weather and have it uniform accross all servers that choose to do so.
Then we could have like a little app on LFSW that was a weather forcast, of course it wouldn't always be accurate, like the real weather!
Yep, mentioned before, and still liking the idea. It will make the weather the complete opposite if linked into UK weather, atm always bloody clear and sunny. Chances of that happening once it's linked?

lol!! sometimes i wonder if they sit in the MET office and just pick random weather conditions out of a hat for the forcast. I'd say 70% of the time they are waaay off the mark!
It's a nice idea, but probably not that great unless it was split over the various tracks as well. Because I doubt Blackwood (UK) and Fern Bay (Jamaica) get the same weather at the same time too often

But if it was track-based, that'd be interesting. All Fern Bay tracks are in sunshine. Blackwood could be in heavy rain and South City could be seeing light rain on the edge of the same storm.

The problem I can see with that is that it'd make all servers feel the same. Players wanting to run a specific track would not be able to choose whether they ran in the wet, dry, snow, day, night, fog, windy conditions and might be more inclined to play offline until the weather changed.

But definitely an interesting suggestion.
It would of course be an optional, but hopefully popular option.

that was the suggestion on the other topic on this. have like a globe with different weathers in the different assocciated parts (UK 2 locations, Jamaica, Japan and any other locations that are added by the time this is implemented).
Nah, we just need "Bad Weather" Server running always in non-sunny conditions once we have real weather in lfs.
It would obviously have to be split depending on the tracks, and server selectable, hence the need for RSS feeds, as they are location based, the one I linked to is for southern UK, and is taken from a weather station, rather than a prediction, so it's nice and accurate.

I was also thinking, eventually, you could tick box for real time lighting, that matched the sunrise and set levels for that country.
Something Becky can add to her server control program perhaps?

I was just thinking about the time of day option myself. Again I'm not sure if that might be more discouraging than immersive. If you only get to play at a certain time every day, you'd end up always driving in the same light conditions every race. Which probably wouldn't be that much fun after a few weeks.
It could be scaled though, to have maybe 6 hour days instead of 24, meaning you'd only have the same condition to drive in once every 4 days. Would add a bit of variation.

And of course with that comes the 24h races which would have to be run independent of that scale in full sync with real life. Fun stuff

People can talk about new cars and tracks all they want, I'm much more interested in seeing working weather and time of day effects! Especially fog. London the other week had 50 foot viewing distances and I thought how cool it would be to be doing 150mph through it

I'm hoping to be able to plug a cow into another socket and cross-reference the cow with the pine cone to get a more accurate prediction. If anyone's got a really small cow I could borrow that would be great - full size ones are fine but they look a lot bigger once you get them in the office.

:ices_rofl

+1 for the ideas before Kev's post. I think it would be really good if it was linked up to real world weather, maybe server admins set the location in each country/continent they want the weather to come from? So then not all the servers will have wet races at Blackwood.

I don't have one to lend, and I doubt most will, but you might be able to rent one from here, or buy it outright

Oh how cool, I always wanted to race just in darkness... [/SARCASM]

No, I want it plain random, but it may change every 3 minutes or so (gradually of course)... Far better than having it tied to anything in RL, it just doesn't has that much variation as you might wish...

No more racing on Blackwood during winter time then?

Seriously, not only did we have this discussion before, it is also still very premature - we don't even have any weather yet and won't have it before S3. But of course, we can always dream .

Edit: I'm not really sure which part of this discussion Kev's post refers to, but it's damn funny
@bbman

I don't like night racing either, but that isn't to say that the endurance leagues might like it for 24hr races.

Kev - you owe me a new pair of underpants, and possibly an office chair for making me pmsl.
I didn't say I'm against a day/night-cycle... It's just that (virtual) racing starts when the sun goes/gone down due to jobs/families/whatsoever, so linking it to RL-time we would only race in the dark, and that's exactly what I don't want (might be fun for a while though)...

Setting a starttime (and if clock is reset to starttime every restart) should be the only thing to decide... Once you connect, you get a forecast (you should see the present state of the weather yourself), then the usual: Take a set and drive or spectate, whatever you like...

Not this "blue sky without wind"-malarky anymore, not even for leagues...
