Is there any way to stop firefox opening the quick find box when I wish to type an apostrophe or a forward slash into the post reply box?

I can type an apostrophe into a reply box like this ''' fine. If a text box isn't the active part of the screen though, it launches quick find.

i've had trouble several times, even when i KNOW the reply box is active, it just comes up, and so what i do is i close out of firefox, open it back up and paste what i had written and i dont have the problem anymore, i've asked and searched around and no one really knows the cause of it even though they too have the same thing happen to them

Same as Nuse - experienced problem intermittently, but not found a cause or a cure anywhere.

Sometimes restarting FF isn't enough for me - sometimes a full reboot has been needed, but there's no logic to it!

I never get a problem provided the text box is actually selected.

I had a similar problem once, too, but I guess restarting Firefox fixed it. If not, a reboot will fix it for sure, but before I do that I rather write the text somewhere else and paste it then (or temporarily disable find-as-you-type).

I've had a problem several times over the last few weeks / months with this. I found that deinstalling Firefox, removing all of the perferences it saves, and then reinstalling resolved the problem for me. It will occasionally happen on machines that have been upgraded from 1.5, as far as I am aware.
