Auxiliary Jack
Ok, I doubt that this is possible...

I am looking for a hack to add an auxiliary jack to my CD player stereo thingy. This is driving me nuts, because I want to plug my mp3 player into it.

To avoid confusion, here is a pic of it.

No, I was wondering if there are any articles on the net about adding an external input jack to a "boombox".
you probably cant ... at least not without disabling one of the other inputs it has

Well if it has no input/mic female (which is unusual) there is no way of doing that AFAIK.
Because everything on the boom-box is hardwired into the circuitboard, you would need to possess a new circuit board for the boombox IF it does not have some sort of auxiliary input already.

Easier/cheaper to just buy a new stereo, really, which has this capability as standard.

Those simple type of stereos dont have inputs of any kind.
However, if it has a tape player, there are cassettes with a wire and a plug wich you can connect to any device with a minijack (3.5mm) output, especially portable mp3 players, wich will play the signal onto the tape-player head, acting as if it's a normal tape cassette. I've seen these at the Media-Markt in Holland and Germany, so they should be available at any average sized consumer electronics shop near you.

There are also cassette shaped mp3 players, but those will set you back a lot of money wich would be pretty stupid as you should rather invest in a better stereo with an input for less money.

Or get a FM transmitter thingy for the MP3 player. They're legal in UK right?

IIRC no.
nope, you can get them in airports and on ebay but strictly they contravene transmission protocols and their use is not encouraged in UK. Very hard to find one in mainstream UK electrical shops.

The FM ones so not give as good quality as the tape insert thingys anyway. The tape ones work well but on an auto reverse system they may only work when the auto reverse is set for one particular direction and not the other, due to the way the auto reverse heads line up with the device.

If the system has a mic socket of course you can just plug into that.

I didn't know that the FM ones were illegal in UK. They are easy to buy over here but results are mixed depending on your car stereo and your arial.

Ah, you need to be running the 11 point font size for best results.
Hmmm, I'll have a look at one of those FM transmitters things then. Although I wonder how good the quality is. Stereo? Well I can have a look myself. BTW it doesn't have a tape player, so I can't use an adapter thingy.

Geez a simple typo. Give me a break will ya.
if you have no aux connectors or a mic connector, you could use this http://www.argos.co.uk/static/ ... 41.Car%2Baudio%2Bkits.htm all you do is connect your mp3 player up to it, and insert the cassette look-a-like into your "boom-box" set the box to tape, press play on both boom box and mp3 player.
Not being funny but why do you want to use your boombox type thing? If you're spending £20 or however much those transmitters are, why not buy a cheap pair of speakers?
@Dadge, again, it doesn't have a tape player unfortunately.

They are about £10 off ebay for new ones. Some speakers for £10 really would sound crap. Plus I already have enough clutter.

This one looks ok. Dunno if the PLL synthesizer makes any difference. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Linex-Wi ... ZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
The radio thingies where recently legalised, I thought?
but with fm youll either use it in mono or will have to accept a whole lot of noise
