Make S1 tracks wider?
Hi all! I wanted to make a suggestion if it would be possible to widen S1 tracks (Fern Bay, South City) because when I was racing in the OWRL MRT Cup, the last combo was Fern Bay Gold and tbh, there was quite a lot of havoc. There were 14 of us in a track which I think can only accommodate the maximum number of drivers of S1 (8-11 drivers only) so it would be REALLY awkward to race at Fern Bay with 20 drivers so heres my idea, how about maybe widening the asphalt of the track because if you look at S2 tracks (Aston, Westhill) they're clearly much wider. Just a suggestion that I thought would be useful so that we can reduce the amount of havoc that happens at South City and Fern Bay.
to wide? i think they are perfect, especially south city, any wider and it'd be like a 10 lane wide highway..

S1 would have supported the number of racers you had, it's 15 connections maximum, you had 14. The carnage you had was not the fault of the track or the car - but because a crow flew West at the wrong moment (a polite way of saying it was the drivers own fault).

It doesn't matter how wide the track is, you still only ever get 2 or sometimes 3 abrest. The problem, particularly at Fern Bay Gold, is when people try to enter the chicane two abrest - they try and sort themselves out into single file but the idiot behind doesnt give them room...

The S1 tracks are designed with the S1 cars in mind (tighter, slower). The S2 tracks are designed with S2 cars in mind (wider, faster).

Have you tried driving the S1 cars on AS or WE tracks? It feels like your driving on an airfield...

I think its good the way it currently is.
Fern Bay is perfect width, South City is about 15% too wide in most places in my opinion.

yup - S2 tracks were designed for cars like the FZR and FO8 to stretch their legs, i love the S1 tracks as they are
I don't care for South City, but Fern Bay is great. It has become a favorite in recent months. I drive FZR mostly and the big GTR's are even fantastic at Fern Bay.

FZR at FE Gold or Black? Awesome!

If you like that, try FE Green reversed with UFR, I know it's FWD but woah it's crazy fun

FE Green Reverse IMO is the best track in LFS - especially with the big GTRs and FOX.

I think aston is 207.68% too wide. Fe just sucks.
I say we should have a track that requires you to be squished down to a quantum singularity in order to go on it.
its the flux capacitator marty! its what makes time travel POSSIBLE!

Could not agree more... put Blackwood to the same list. If Blackwood was 50% tighter than it currently is and made to look like 20-30 year old rusty, abandoned track it would be awesome. I think the problem in general is not the fact that the tracks are not real tracks, the problem is that the tracks doesn't look like they could be real tracks (except Kyoto National). Everything is too wide and too "smooth". If you really think about it, no one would ever build Blackwood GP or Aston in real life. Not even Hermann Tilke.
I want AVUS.

Can't remember, FE Green Rev is where you turn left out of pit lane? Chicane first, then towards the sand pits?

If so, you both are wrong! LX6 was fantastic in the league race I ran there. My force feedback went out during that race though. Imagine running the LX6 for an hour with no force feedback and no car feeling! WOW!!
That's forwards. Reverse sends you into the twisty bits that lead to the "straight". Hmm, much like forwards then.
I think fern bay could be one of my favourite tracks ever if it:
a) didn't have those chicanes
b) had elevation differences, even small ones
c) had tighter corners without having positive camber
d) had connecting corners
e) had interesting corners

Fe, like all tracks in LFS are good quality, excellent in how a race track should look in a sim. The tracks don't have that artificial game track look at all. From artistic point of view the tracks are gorgeous . But from a race driver's point of view they have some very bad design flaws. From a track designer's point of view they have some very bad design flaws. From pure 3d-modelling point of they have some issues.

I don't know why people seem to hate Tilke's tracks so much. So far they have provided the best racing in F1. They have challenging, interesting and all kinds of corners that make a good track to race on. Tilke's tracks are 1000x better and more interesting than some boring tracks, like Monza or Hungaroring.

I did suggest few changes to the Kyoto and Fern bay tracks. Imho, the fern bay especially has potential to be a great track, it just needs some changes. Of course some people disagree

imo FE suits its island-like surroundings

jamaica itself is pretty flat anyways, so i think it fits in well..

I've seen a lot of extremely dull races on Tilke's tracks, the first good one was 2005 - but then all but one race was great to watch in 2005, and that was designed by...

Anyway the point I actually wanted to make is that there's this other track designer, called Eric. He's actually pretty good BUT he does have a certain style and his tracks have a particular feel - on the downside though there's always a chicane, never a proper 180 hairpin (Brand Hatch Druids-like), little consideration to traditional high braking overtaking zones, sporadic use of camber, elevation, and light, and very rarely do we see a cunning wierd-line corner like Russel Bend (Snetterton)

I do think LFS would benefit greatly from a second track designer, the whole gameplay hinges on LFS' tracks and Eric's do have very much the same style to drive in many ways - changing mainly by their environment. Bad points aside, he does do a very good job.
Quote from thisnameistaken :Jamaica is mostly mountains.

is it? all i've ever seen of it has been fairly flat, i actually edited this out: i think FE would be a good place to have a mountain run if we ever get that "rally pack" but... doubt that will ever come

owell
Quote from Becky Rose :Bad points aside, he does do a very good job.

That applies to almost everything - Hitler, Tilke, James Allen, Ant and Dec... (okay, maybe not James Allen)...

Track widths are fine for me, they just need some a different approach to racing instead of driving all over the place.

The FE Green side of the island is bad, the gold side is the good side, including the bestest track of all, Club.
Uhm, aren't most islands mountainous? That just comes with the nature of how most islands are formed, really... If I'm not mistaken.

Anywho, -1 to the OP. I'd like to reverse the statement, and say that the new tracks should be narrower. (well, maybe just westhill.) Aston and Kyoto are boring no matter what (although KY National could be fun if it were narrower maybe?) but Westhill has some potential I think.
yea.. i dont know, but when you get to where fern bay lies (outskirts of an island), sometimes it isn't so mountaineous
