Help with refresh rate
Hi,

I'm having problems setting the refresh rate on my 19" Samsung SyncMaster 940BW. I have an ATI 9800 Pro. I can set the resolution to 1440x900@75Hz, but once windows (XP SP2, fully updated) restarts I just get a black screen.

Checking the monitor information it says it's in 320x480@60Hz (31.5 KHz NP, if that means anything to anyone). I then unplug the DVI cable, plug it back in and all is fine. If I run in 60Hz everything is ok as well. I'm baffled by this. 75Hz works fine until I restart!

I also use ATI Tray Tools (to set AA and AF settings for LFS) , but I've tried disabling it and still nothing. I've tried reinstalling the graphics drivers, no luck . Anyone have any ideas?
Sounds strange, but anyway, since you are using a TFT there is no need to run it at 70 or 75 Hz. Use 60 Hz, because most TFTs are built do be used that way and the image won´t be better with higher frequencies.
Moreover, most TFTs have an internal pixelclock running at 60 Hz, so forcing them to 70 or 75 Hz doesn´t make sense at all.

Keep on racing!

Does the screen do 75Hz. Most LCDs only do 60hz. 940BW i think the W stands for widescreen?
Yep, it's widescreen and it does do 75Hz (goes upto 85Hz on lower resolutions I believe). I'm content with 60Hz just wondering why windows acts funny with 75Hz. It works when I set it, just causes problems when windows boots up. The POST screen is ok at 60Hz, so is the windows loading thing. But when I'm meant to get into windows the screen goes blank.
Does it support 75 Hz at 1440x900? If it does try another driver. If this won´t work, well, this is windows. But keep in mind (I promise I will do it in the future):

Don´t mess around with your system settings, if everything´s working fine.

Never change a running system!

I had to do several Windows re-installations just because of trying out so many useless things like beta drivers or system tuning.
