Vista Gaming Performance?
Has anyone been able to get decent gaming performance out of Vista? LFS is always pinned at 60fps in XP(vsync) but in Vista, with the nVidia drivers released yesterday for the RTM build, I get like 25fps when racing 6+ others. GTR2 with 27 AIs is unplayable. I've tried turning off Aero and Sidebar, and but it doesn't affect it at all.

My computer doesn't completely suck. AMD 64 X2 4200, 2GB Dual Channel, 250GB SATA2, nVidia 7800GT 256mb PCI-E. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm dualbooting XP untill I can figure something out.

I don't know what to suggest. I'm running Vista with AMD X2 3800 with 2Gb Ram and a single ATI X1950 XT. I run x4 AA and x8 AF and on AS3 with 20 drivers it only dips below 60 when I'm at the back of the grid, most of the race its above 90fps (140fps max with no visible cars)

Aero will automatically disable the window/taskbar transparency when run in fullscreen. I also don't run the sidebar. A few weeks ago I was running 2 Nvidia 7600GS in SLi but when I switch to Vista there was no driver support to run SLi but even then I was getting higher fps than you (40 at back of grid)

The only problem gaming in Vista so far has been a few indie games that refuse to run.

Funny... LFS under Windows Vista for me ran perfectly fine. Normal FPS, same I get in XP. My FPS is always somewhere in between 35-60 or 70. Just depends on how many cars are around.

I eventually noticed performance got unplayable, then I realized the little csrss.exe trojan or whatever slipped past my antivirus. I decided that my friend was right, Vista has security issues, so now im back to XP.

Funny you had problems, this is my computer:
Athlon XP 2400+ 2.0GHZ, 1GB RAM, 80GB 7200RPM, GeForce 6600LE 256MB. The 80gig is what I have XP on, I was using Vista on a 40GB 5400RPM drive just for testing purposes.
on a side note if you play GTR2 & your interested in playing online/lan with me and some other people just for fun, let me know, send me ur msn or something

Also there will be many bugs and this is probably one of them due to drivers with Vista, going to take a few more months to get everything working properly.

Ciao

I just installed the 64bit version of Vista and my desktop resolution is 1024x768 by default. I also installed the 64bit ATI drivers but still I´m not able to set it to the native 1024x1280 res. Is this a common problem or what?

Did a quick test and LFS unlocked and ran fine, phew...
