Quote from bbman :You don't get it, do you? Either you can drive with the setup, no matter how windy it is, or the set sucked right from the start... There is no point in changing the setup, as it would have an effect in both directions, the one into the wind and the one with the wind... And as you have to get back to where you started to complete a lap: +1-1=0... Get it now?

1-1+wind!=0 got it? You have to drive differently so it would be of beneift to adjust the setup, I'm not sure what part of this you don't understand and think it's all the same with wind or without when clearly it's different and you don't have to be a rocket sceintist to see that.
Fine, change your setup every single time the wind changes direction or speed then! I don't care if you're pointlessly making thousands of set just to have one for every wind speed and direction... Go on! My point still stands: Nobody has ever done this, in RL or VL, but hey, you're smarter than the rest of the world, don't you? I even doubt you're doing your setups yourself...

@Jose: I've tried it, done it... It had quite some understeer, with a low power-locking diff, both things I don't like... But not seeing a replay from you we can't really say what's the reason for your sliding...

Yes I make my own setups adjust them to my liking and I adjust them to wind speed because the league I'm in atm uses high wind speeds and to me it makes a difference and I like to get everything I can out of the car.
akkording to my experience with different wind on long races on the oval i can say, the direction and the speed of the wind changes over time. one time you have wind from behind on the backstraight and sometimes wie didn't have wind at all....

i think it changes and it influences e.g. an oval race a lot
Quote from Bob Smith :It's called circuit racing, if you end up back where you started then logic dictates you went as far forwards as you did backwards.

right =), but forces from air are not a linear function !
You'll lose more time going into a headwind down Blackwood straight at 150mph than you will gain in the fiddly slower bits on the way back to the hairpin with a tailwind. Thus you lose overall.

Quote from bbman :I never heard any RL team changing setup because the wind got stronger or changed direction, do you? Thought so... Seriously, have you thought that through all the way?

I have, gear ratios and/or wing settings. (F1 mainly)

Why is it that whenever you see complaints about wind its always people saying it effects their lap time or that they can't take a corner as fast as they can without wind. I would have thought that would be obvious?

I love wind because on the track it sorts the hot lappers from the racers. Hot lapping is about putting in the fastest lap possible. Just restart if you off.

Racing on the other hand is about completing a distance or number of laps before anyone else. Lap time does not matter, if nobody else crosses the line you can win driving at walking pace. All that matters is you FINISH the race before anyone else.

So when there is wind change your driving to adapt, allow for a slight margin of error if that is needed to make sure you finish.

Just imagine what it will be like when rain and a live track get implemented
I don't see why people complain so much about it. I don't get to choose whether or not IRL if I can see while racing during a rallycross because the wind is blowing dirt across my windshield. Or being able to stay in a straight line cruising down the highway when it is windy.
I'm a gung-ho kinda guy. Jump in and hold on tight. I just adjust while racing in both virtual and real situations. I never considered changing a set because the wind effects my speed. I race into every apex treating it like a new corner I have never taken. Everyone is effected by the wind, and if you need .0001 second faster set to win, then maybe your skills should be improved. If you have a headwind on a long straight, draft off the car infront of you.
Alright I'm done with my rant, IMO wind should be the least of your worries while tweaking sets, make it fit your needs and comforts. Give yourself the %error you need, so you don't make a bigger mistake of crashing, instead of going a lil slower into a corner because of a headwind.
