Replay format
I have used the search function but I believe there is no routine to chop replays into smaller chunks. Does anyone know differently?

If there isn't a routine is that because the format of the replay file is unknown?

Maxim
That's not possible atm because the replay format only records the initial starting position of the car and then user inputs. The values are then used to drive the car from your recorded inputs. That is why there is no way, with the current format, to skip or rewind replays. Chopping a replay off early is fine but you can't chop the start off.

Until the new format system gets introduced to alleviate these problems there's little you can do until you FRAPS the replay and get a nice editable video stream.
Is that also true for mpr replays? With a 1 hour race tracking 20 driver's inputs and applying them through the physics engine seems like by the end there is a big chance that the cars would be out of position, especially given problems with lag.

Maybe it includes some check markers to put the car into its correct position at predefined times? This wouldn't help with a reverse play but it might make it possible to cut the replay.

Shame we can't make a new replay from an exisiting replay as that would solve the problem I was looking at.

I don't know the ins and outs of the system, you'd need Scawen to answer that. I can only known this from what Scawen has typed in the past. There may be some sort of tolerance system to deal with rounding errors. I know the OOS errors occur when the data from the next packet of information doesn't match with what the physics engine calculated should happen. So I assume there must be some sort of position, angle and speed data in the MPRs.
FF and RW !!!
Whoops...

That post, and the associated thread is a fairly in-depth discussion about this. Might be useful to you.
