Purchasing LFS S2
Hi there, I wish to purchase LFS S2 but I may have a problem. I'm at university in halls, and the network has certain ports blocked. I can't use the demo online, and I read that it means I may not be able to register LFS. I don't mind just playing the single player for now, but I don't want to pay £24 to find out I can't unlock it! So, any idea whether I'll be able to unlock it?

Thanks in advance
My guess would be no, since you'll need the same Master Server access to register as you would to play it. Sorry.
Of course, if you can get to the server list screen and just not actually connect to any servers, it means just the actual P2P ports are blocked and therefor you should (in theory) be able to unlock it.
I had the same problem 3 years ago, and couldn't unlock over the uni network, or play online. However, I unlocked it using a mobile phone as a modem (only needs to be on for a few seconds, so doesn't cost much), and then learnt the cars/tracks offline whilst in halls. When I came home for holidays, and when I moved into houses whilst at Uni with normal broadband connections, I was able to reap the benefits of having bought/played it so much offline.

Granted the AI isn't much, but you can do quite a lot of learning/hotlapping instead.

But I had bought it before I went to uni - if you're already there it might be worth waiting until closer to the summer break before splashing out, and spending the £24 on beer until then!
Hmm, I cant get on the server at all so I'm doomed then :P Thanks anyway guys, I'll have to get when I next take my computer home (which'll be summer I suppose). I don't know how much more I can take driving round the demo track in those three cars! You're right though; it does mean more beer for now

Do you have a phone line over there? You could just buy an old fashioned El Cheapo modem to unlock? Or like Tristan said using a mobile phone?
Or if its a laptop you'll be playing on go take it somewhere that has full access to the interweb and unlock it that way!
I guess what tristancliffe said at post #3 is the best thing to do.

Unlocking the game with a dialup connection does not take any longer than 2 seconds!! You don't jave to use ADSL to unlock the game.

The problem is the you can not race online, but imo that's not very bad when you are a begginer. Learning most of the tracks offline is a very good practice for some later on-line gaming.

Most of us have to make lots of practice offline when we are facing a new track anyway. LFS is not going to get cheaper by summer to worry about your... 24 pounds investment and your liver would thank you for your LFS purchase also
