JDM vs. EDM vs. USDM
Discuss.... But this isn't a flame war, its a discussion. Keep it clean and on topic.

For anyone who doesn't know:
JDM=Japanese Domestic Market
EDM=European Domestic Market
USDM=United States Domestic Market

What is vs ?

Why people always put things against other?

I don't see how this could end up any good way or if this would come to any good and informative thread.
All terms thought up by the ricers to escape the "that is rice" flames. A wing on a FWD is rice, whether it is JDM or not. It's still rice.
Which car?
JDM>USDM
EDM>USDM

We don't get the good versions of imports here in the U.S.. Civics, Integras, Silvias, M3s, Quattros, etc. The list is quite long

I'd rather not get involved in the JDM vs. EDM argument, seeing as how they are both well-suited to their places of origin. Although Japanese cars fit in Japan and are able to navigate the tight roads, they don't seem to do too well on the more open roads. The opposite is true with European cars- They're great for an open road but barely fit on the roads in Japan (If you've ever seen a MB SL65 in Kyoto, you know what I mean).

While I agree that it's completely idiotic to put a wing on the civic that you drive everyday on the road, it may shock you that wings DO improve performance of FWD cars- watch a BTCC race and you'll see what I mean.

The rear wing on a BTCC car is nothing compared to the front air dam. They set touring cars up to be as oversteery as possibly and the rear wing is only really their for show, you could call it...

...rice

Are we talking about JDM meaning japanese rice and tuners, or are we actually talking about the true definitions of JDM, EDM, USDM ?
Interesting topic. In lieu of telling everyone what I think is "rice" or not and getting this thing locked down, i'll try to stick to what I think the topic starter was looking for:
We'll start with the Integra, as it's the only car whose differences I can spot between markets. I see so many people here in the states going with the JDM front for their 3rd gen (DC & DB chassis) Integra... I do think it has a very clean look to it, and can appreciate the hard work that goes into the swap, but for those who aren't into that specific car the JDM front just makes it look like an Accord. The round headlights of the USDM Teg set the car apart IMO.
I've always thought about throwing a JDM cluster in my Integra, but recently I've started a search for a UKDM unit, which retains the colors of the JDM one but is in MPH, not KPH.
European cars rule, simple as.
European performance cars are for the rich.. gross weight and volume is to UK roadsters what "prestige" and other intangible fashions are to the real american performance cars. The ones made in your garage as opposed to bought in shrink wrap.

Just make your own damn car/bike.
Rite this conversation has NOTHING to do with rice whatsoever. Its mearly discussing who makes the best cars stock. No gay wings or anything, ok?

Well, ive always been into JDM. The cars are so technologically advanced, and combine performance, stability and beauty. But hey, EDM is a strong contender against it. European cars such as Audi and Mercedes show the same sort of combinations. But hey, its probably just me being biased.

As for USDM, well, i cant really be bothered to waist my finger energy on it. It just doesnt compare to the other 2, except maybe the likes of Corvette.
The only thing I had ever heard/seen when the term (or acronym) JDM is used is when someone with a Japanese vehicle here in the states that has gawdy body kits, big oversized ridiculous wing, and huge ugly "bling bling" wheels with tires that have a profile of about 5 mm gets called a ricer or his car gets called rice and he argues that "No way, it's not rice, it's JDM!" So, sorry if I called it rice or made a rice comment.

So, now that we have USDM and EDM on top of JDM, then it all comes down to complying with that area's laws? JDM would be illegal here then as JDM would mean meant for Japan's market, thus for the laws in Japan and not here in the US. USDM would be vehicles and parts manufactured for the US complying with the laws in the US. We have never had the same vehicles available that is available elsewhere in the world. Just look back in the mid 80's when the UK was in love with the Ford Escort. In the mid 80's, the Ford Escort was an underpowered economy POS in the US. We did not have the Escort, was it Cosworth or something, available. So many VW vehicles and Subaru's that we could not have that was available anywhere else outside the US. So, in that respect, then yes, EDM or JDM would be much much better than USDM, but we are not capable of having that due to the law.

Now 4 door pickup trucks are all the rage here in the US. It's no longer the SUV that is the selling leader. These came about just in the last few years, yet in Australia (and elsewhere?) Toyota has had the Hilux pickup truck (4 door truck) since the late 70's when the Toy pickup has been around. (just an example of something else that was always available outside the US).

So, sorry when someone mentions JDM to someone in the US, because anything that actually is for performance that would be deemed JDM would be illegal, thus they go for the JDM body kits, wings, wheels, etc to attempt to get away from the "ricer" stereotype, thus saying JDM would just be rice.
Yeh im not going mad or anything. To be honest, im into JDM modified cars. But not rice. When i think JDM, i think a Civic with a front lip, 16" wheels, carbon hood and maybe a small performance exhaust. JDM isnt always rice, its just idiots who dont know what theyre doing.

Front lip, 16" wheels and carbon hood sure are rice in stock base model Civic ?
As far as the EDM vs JDM goes, I cant really tell the difference with the UK produced cars...Civics built and designed in Swindon? what category do THEY fall into?
I do know that people seem to like getting the rarer models imported though..A workmate recently had a Nissan 200SX TwinTurbo imported, and THAT had spoilers, wings, skirts, and big wheels ...which he swears blind are original.. anyone know for certain?

LOL, that's exactly what I'm talking about.

"My car ain't rice, it's JDM!"

Oh, that makes a lot more sense now. I was thinking about actual JDM cars. People calling their USDM civics JDM is a totally different (and sad) thing. All of the cars I see now are "JDM INSPIRED, y0 LOLZ OMG!!!1111!11oneone"

bladerunner- the 200SX (in Europe) is the Nissan Silvia. It never had a twin turbo or any of the other things that you mentioned. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_Silvia

chopaholic- way to contribute to the conversation. I really think that we've all benefited from your intelligence.
