Any anti-virus experts in here?

I got a BIG problem with some virus. The name is "geefs". It spreads like the flue! Nearly every file is infected. On C, D, basicly all drives!

I tryed to kill it by installling a ant-virus program. The only thing the program did was erase all the files which were infected. I had to stop it so it woudnt damage windows documents.

Now, my question:

If I format all the drives, and do a reboot of the system, will it still be there? That means i will turn everything like the day i got the PC. Most importanly is LFS going to work after that? What can i do so I can at least save some files?

I need a fast response, PLEASE!

PS
This isnt the first time I have to do this. But, this virus ise one of the hardest which I have to deal with now.Its starting to get anoying!

Well, you shoud make backups regularly.
If the infectd files have to be deleted, there is no way to rescue the files I guess.
Of course you can copy the ones which are not infected yet. in many cases it's only the exe and com files.
If you really format everything (and dont just load some "last working config"), the irus will be gone, but all your data, too
Ok, I rebooted the system like it was two months ago. The virus is still present.
There are too many files to check! About 150Gigs! Actuly thats gonna take a long time to do, time which I dont have.

A noob question (dont laugh):

Can any virus pass on the CD drive? Example: I have now the FIA GTR disc in the PC, cann it pass on to that?????????? IS it capable???????????
It can't infect your CD or DVD, it's impossible (not sure if it could be done w/ rewritable removable optical (huh!) media) for such read-only media to be infected.

Trend-Micro's sysclean utility cleans rather well with most recent pattern file, run it in safe mode with admin rights.

Avast antivirus is free for personal use, it is also one of the lightest and one of the most efficent antivirus products.

Hehe, in my 3 years with computer i have had only 2 viruses I`ll give you a simple tip for next time : if you are going to some strange site, use user account, because users don`t have so much rights.

Yes, a very good point!

But, I only today realized that i had a virus! You dont want to know how I got that information, believe me! I have no clue how long its in there, what it has done. I just hope that it didnt mess around with some of my internet/acounts/ information.

btw, ........ its no trojan.

Does it qurentine/repeair or delete the infected files. I am on their site right now, and my cursor is near the "download" option.

Avast deletes infected files, so does sysclean from Trend Micro. Usually nowday virus does not infect important files, just makes it's own files that are safe to delete.

Of course both of these two has possibility to repair files.

Avast cant repair the files. I tried some difrent programs, they just wont do it. Btw, norton describes the virus as " High Risk ".

This isnt my day,

had to go shopping (orders),

some artist drawed nice lines on my car, I suspect with a really sharp object,

and now this...................

I guess you have windows installed to C: drive, then virus is in C:\windows\svchost.exe that is safe to delete.

It should not infect your documents, pictures, videos or music.

Here is removing instructions
You can use Avast or sysclen to do full scan.

All files that can't be repaired should be deleted, there is no hope to get infected files repaired when you have tested it with several programs.

Run two full scans one after other has finished, so you can get them all down.

Should be clean after that, also there should not be danger to lost anything important as this virus is not spreading to data files and also not to windows system files.

But if there is some other virus, then situation can be different.
you should know by now that google is your friend, if you search for that name some links like this will come up. if you have the A variant of the virus you might get away without formatting, if you dont follow the directions on the website.
anyway you should be more carefull with your pc and the websites you visit, use a browser like firefox, get a free antivirus like avg or any other mentioned in this thread and most important a good firewall.
havent read everyones posts, but i've had great luck changing from Internet Explorer to Firefox, and using CCleaner (www.ccleaner.com), and turning the immunization on, havent gotten any adware through firefox or had any problems YET!
reason being i changed, is because i got ZToolbar which is apparently a trojan i believe, and no matter how you try to get rid of it, it comes back again; even what orion suggested, going back to a different date restoring your computer... does nothing, and i most seriously would not delete everything off my computer, so after running CCleaner and turning immunization on.. no problems since, and firefox just makes the whole thing tons better because nothing has gotten through
FireFox Rules!
