Any chance of a cumulative Blackwood 2.0 pack, i.e. a single "drop-in" pack including all updates, for those of us that haven't used this texture addon before?
Yeah, I know this site well- unfortunately they only have Japanese/Asain looking fonts, the characters are still English.
Hmm, no mind- I'm sure I'll come across something, I'll continue with the English ads for now..

edit: - Arrrghh!! It looks like Eric's done the ads in Joyo Kanji, a character set whereby each character is a word. Apparently there are atleast 1945 of these characters!! :faint2:
Electrik Kar i want to thank you for your hard work on the track textures. I have you updated BW and Aston packs and they look great. I love racing around these higher res tracks.

Alright, I've worked out how to get into the Japanese sets by using the Character Map program in Windows (should have thought of that earlier illepall ). I have to scroll through all of these characters until I find the right ones. Thankfully I've found a few already- but this is going to be one huge job!
To anyone who reads Japanese, I would like to ask- what do the words on HGA_ads1.dds say? If anyone knows, or can help out with getting these characters into Photoshop, please email me!
Thought I'd upload a few wallpaper shots (1280 x 1024) for anyone who would like them- I think they show off the new KY graphics quite well. I'm having a ball with this texture pack, learning new things as I go along. If everything's smooth sailing ( :boat: ) then Kyoto should be ready for release fairly shortly. (I hope )
That's great work. Can I suggest you start a new thread for Kyoto track texture updates and preview shout + comments? Let's leave this one as Blackwood-related stuff?
Good idea. To date I've used this thread as a kind of scrapbook for all of the tracks- then as something nears completion I start another thread. I think the best option is a new main thread that links to all the seperate track threads, that way things are cohesive and people can view the work as a whole, as well as find out about updates, etc. LFS Database has been very responsive when I've needed to organise and update things in the past, but you're right; it's time to clean up the forum threads. I'll get on it...
@ danowat re: Blackwood - Probably tonight? I'm just doing some last minute tweaking, but everything's basically ready.
Electrik - is there any chance you and bo-kristiansen (spelling?) could work on packs together for each track? The combination of your track/road/grass/dirt textures and his real life adverts in one pack for each track would be a great thing
Hmm- I've thought about the same thing. I wish Bo would do some higher-res stuff - (/me looks at Bo :really. I don't like to spend too much time on ads because people usually tend to want their own thing. Anyway, if Bo wanted to do some higher-res RL ads as a collaboration that would be great.
Electric Kar - I hate to ask, but was hoping I could make a small request. Your texture work is top notch but there's one thing I'd love to see changed and that's the blue and white curbing. Would you be willing to possibly make a version with much, MUCH longer stripe sections? The current, default sized stripes shimmer and are very distracting. I did a quick edit to fix it but would much rather have it done by the master, if possible.

Sounds like you really want to be applying more anisotropic filtering. I'm able to run 16X passes (4X anti-aliasing) with my card with minimum performance issues- that makes everything look really nice- without AF the image tends to look pretty ugly. Try that first, and then- no promises, but if I have time I'll work on some new curbs for you.
I already run 4X AF and 4X AA but it doesn't really help. I'm running an odd resolution with a fairly low vertical count, so I'm sure that adds to the problem. Changing the texture itself is the only way I've found to really fix the issue though (not to mention, it looks more realistic).
No biggie if you can't or don't want to do it. Like I said, I've got a hack running now that works. It just doesn't look great, that's all. Maybe I'll put in a little more time making a new edit that looks better. Would you be okay with me using your BWcurbs1.dds as a base, assuming I come up with something that's worthy of release?

I`d have offered you some high res ads before for your releases, but there`s already loads of them out there for everyone, so I didn`t see much point.
I`m using the blackwood ads from Bo`s texturepack4 atm, as I`ve been short of time and they really suit the track, but I`m already about 65-70% of the way through converting them all to high res for my own use. If either of you want the finished high res versions for use in your own releases, then just let me know. I`ll be happy to help out.
