The online racing simulator
Yay. This thread's been bumped. Many thanks to whoever bumped it. May we have many more repetitions of old points and maybe a few circular arguments to kick off the last week before Festivus

LOL A "noobness" =] I prefer "noobility" myself ;]

Nice one Kev - I just wish I could be there among you. Something should be done about him. To think ITV replaced Murray Walker with that ignorant shouty gimp! My memory of Jensen's well-earned first win is always tainted by the memory of James ****ing Allen spunking all over himself and screaming the commentary box down

You could also try this old classic: "I tried to get James Allen fired and all I got was this lousy t-shirt"

Psst! Kev! Maybe if we turn this sucker off topic everyone will lose interest or it'll get locked! Nyeheheh...

Does it sound like a big dog or little dog? I have a medium dog - a beagle, in fact. Sniffs everything. Scared witless of cats. Hates heights - wouldn't be caught dead on a roof. Eats grapes.

That's the spirit old chap! =D

i drift a little, it kinda helps a little with car control. again, i'm not the "ZOMG LEIK IM TEH DORFITO KINNGGG" type. Just fun thing to do every now and then. Like banger racing!
Dog Vader, hehe. Sounds like she was a character It's sorta nice that she got old instead of being a traffic victim like Guinness, my wee old black & white socks cat. She was only 2 when she bought it

We have polished floor boards going all the way from the front door and down the hall to the living room. When I get home and let Chilli inside she bolts halfway down the hall then decides to stop at the kitchen doorway - but she has no traction at all and ends up skidding a coupla yards on all four feet and spins her wheels trying to turn around and run back the way she came. I think she does it for fun actually Doggy dorifto!

Gremwood, that's a bit OT isn't it mate?

Quote from Viper93 :Drifting does require control of a vehicle and it's ok to watch, fun sometimes but to me it's not racing it's an art form like figure skating or ice dancing. You never hear the Figure skaters say they are trying to go as fast as possible around the rink do you?

could we for the sake of keeping everybody happy and keeping this discussion away from flames and stupidity from either side (mostly from the ricers side tbh) get rid of the figure skating anology once and for all and exchange it with a sport that is actually cool ?
skateboarding anybody ?
or like halfpipe snowboarding compared to downhill runs?
Quote from thisnameistaken :I have to admit (rather shamefully) that we used to play a game like that with my friend's dog Fred - we'd often take advantage of his enthusiasm with a well-placed rug on a linoleum kitchen floor. Fred was ace, and another dog with bizarre quirks: Calm as you like until someone pointed a banana at him and then he'd go all snarling fiend until the offending soft fruit was lowered. He also had a brown "growl spot" on his head - touching it with a fingertip would make him growl even when he was asleep.

LOL banana rage! Very Pavlovian

I think swimming is a far more appropriate analogy...
You've got racing which is like the swim racing - first to the finish is the winner and where the top athletes are houshold names e.g. Thorpe, Phelps, Spitz, Biondi == Shumaker, Prost, Senna, McRae etc. then you have synchronised swimming that is a points based judged sport where the rules and the top athletes are mostly only known by close followers of the sport.

Of course if you don't like that idea there's always 'rhythmic gymnastics' (the one where they don't even need to be very athletic, just good at doing fancy tricks with high precision....)

do all scotts have your idea of whats cool ?
I think the synchronised swimming/figure skating analogies are quite valid  Small but loyal fan base, stars relatively unknown in the larger world, points/style-based criteria...plus, how else would you describe tandem drift to a layperson? If you said "it's like synchronised swimming with cars" or "think Torvill & Dean in Silvias" they'd go "aaah I gotcha". Drifters might not like being compared to such "girly" sports but there's really no other equivalent that I can think of. Drift is graded on points/style and not who finishes first so I think the analogies are appropriate. True, you could line it up with vert or freestyle skating/bmx or maybe flatland bmx, that's about points - but noone really races bmx anymore. Mountainbike racing is big but it's not bmx, so that would just confuse people What about dressage as compared to horse racing? I mean, if drifters don't dig the synch swimming angle, maybe they're just insecure j/k

Sorry about the OT kev I have two frogs as well...
aw you cheeky bastard

theres plenty of cooler comparissons though:
downhill skateboarding (startibartFAST my bottom ... beat ya to it )
freestyle and racing motocross
snowboarding
freestyle skiing (only one i can think of that has a olympic racing counterpart)

edit:
wait theres another olympic one swimming and diving (which at least in my book is kinda cool) ... with synchonized diving youve also got a proper anology to twinning
It's dressage and you know it

Quote from DjeMz :There much more to this point im sure other members on here would love to add, but I guess the UK isnt ready for drifting just yet.

What you mean UK isn't ready for drifting? Heard about www.driftworks.co.uk ? and we had a very nice 06 season called D1GB.

Sorry if anyone already cleared this. I can't be bothered to read all 1 pages

And yes, I drift more then I race.
oh dear, it seems we have to add you to the 5-10% of the "others"

Then why the hell did you bump a thread from before Christmas ffs? How many open threads do we need about the same damn topic anyway?
Quote from Hankstar :Then why the hell did you bump a thread from before Christmas ffs? How many open threads do we need about the same damn topic anyway?

I'm going to assume most of that was rhetorical, and that you're not hanging on for an answer

I agree, we do now have far too many concurrent threads on the same topic and with almost identical content, from all the same people. It's time to narrow the eternal poop funnel.
Quote from SNOOP [Drift-Era] :I didn't complete reading this thread... and i won't.

Then I'll state for the record that, on this forum, "threadologically uneducated" posting is not welcomed. That means that if you're going to participate in a thread by pressing your thoughts and opinions on others, you'd better demonstrate a willingness to hear the thoughts and opinions of others too! DO NOT post in threads you have not read.
