Recording video within LFS ..
After checking out the latest test patch (V2) and using the CTRL+S function to take screenshots, I thought it would be a good idea to have a similar function but for recording video. I know I could use Fraps, but I'd rather use LFS !! Capture settings could be modified in the menu.

+1 ?

Yep, it would be great, don't know how time consuming it would it be to add. It'not that neccessary, but it would be great.
That CTRL + S feature in new test patch is just a great addition, shows how scawen thinks about those details that can make your life easier
Yeah, I agree that it is not essential and that people can use Fraps to get around this, though I think it's always good to keep things in-game
fraps is good but the sizes of files before compression is ridicolicalicolus ... like 2 mins of footage is like 3 gb !
It would take even more resources from your system if it would compress the videos with some codec.

Considering LFS replay files are not video files they would still have to be encoded it to avi or mpg files. That means it will strain the system just as much and the result would be the same. So I think it would give no advantage over using fraps. Besides that I guess there would be license issues if built in codecs would be used to get the filesize low/less big. I feel features should be limited to what's really important, and that's the sim itself. The CTRL-S feature is much less complex and quite easy to implement, not really comparable to stuff like built in video capturing.

No, encoding from a replay doesn't have to be done in real time. For example, MovieStudio for GPL/NR2003, does two passes, one at a slow speed to create the video, then a second pass to create the sound (.WAV) file.

rFactor includes a replay to video feature. As mentioned, for GPL and NR2003, there is a 3rd party utlity, MovieStudio, that not only makes videos from replays, but allows a player to control camera movement. (Note, MovieStudio and Windows XP don't seem to get along very well).

+1 for me.
hmm Enemy Territory has it and works good so, why doesnt LFS has it?

Fraps videos are compressed. No-one seems to know that, but they really are!
