It was an emergency measure brought in after the deaths of Roland Ratzenberger and Ayrton Senna, and a near fatal accident in testing for [and this is the trivia I might get wrong] Jonny Herbert (possibly). Or was it a Jordan? Dammit! Failing memory. He didn't die anyway, and it was at Silverstones Bridge corner.
EDIT: Here's some trivia, the first driver to be disqualified for a wooden plank offence was F1's biggest plank! LOL, yup, Michael "what are rules" Chewbacca. Now for the bits I might get wrong.... Second round after introduction of the rule, Belgium?
He may also have had an accident. I seem to recall getting the distinct impression that F1 driving was not a good career choice that year. Barely a month went by without a major incident.
It was Pedro Lamy in a Lotus I believe, and he ended up in the spectator tunnel in the Bridge banking.
As for Schumi's plank DQ, the damage was caused by a spin over the kerbs. However, Benetton was not in good favour with the FIA that year, and the DQ was more to use Benetton as a scapegoat to show that the FIA will enforce the new plank rules (which were under scrutiny and attack at the time). There was no evidence at the time to suggest that the car was routinely run too low, nor that Mr Schumacher himself could hold any blame in that DQ, other than the fact that he spun. I don't mind people disliking Schumi, but please get the facts right before turning events he had no say in against him.
D) I refuse to see anything good he's ever done
E) I refuse to differentiate between the team he is in cheating and him cheating
F) People jealous of his achievments
G) English (speaking?) people hating him because he's German in some stupid war/nazi/1966 Football agenda
Quite simply Becky, if you don't like him, then fine, I don't care. But when trying to make a point against him, don't fudge all the facts in your head to suit what you're saying - there is no link between Schumi (and his tenuous exploits over the years) and the plank DQ at Spa '94. To suggest otherwise shows an uncharacteristic ignorance of F1, Schumi and racing.
