New moniter
Hey all...

I am looking at buying a new moniter for my PC, I want 19"+

What size do you recomend, I would still like to run the 1024*768 res.
Where do you recommend I buy from and do you have any monitors you recommend.

Also, I have a ATi Radeon X1600 pro gfx card, would I be able to run 2 monitors off this...

I would like to have them showing seperate images, for example, I want LFS to show on one and my desktop showing on the other, is that even possible?

please help lol
You are talking about a TFT monitor right?
I did some research on the subject recently, cause I might purchace a 2nd monitor for myself soon.
I recommend a 19'' LG, at 1280x1024. Don't get a widescreen cause many games have problems with those resolutions. LGs have some good value for money scores generally.

I own a Samsung CRT 19" myself, but i checked LFS on a friend's house on a LG 19" TFT with native 1280x1024 resolution and run LFS at 1024x768 with no problem at all.

I didn't notice any ghosting or distortion due to the different resolution.

Some features that would be nice to check are:

1. Zero burnt pixel warranty
2. Response time 8ms and lower
3. Not Widescreen (just my preference on this one)
4. DSUB & DVI input

I'm not a guru on the subject, so wait for some more answers too

EDIT
About the graphics card question, the 1600 and most modern cards can run too monitors with no problem. You 'll arrange those preferences from the control panel of the card.
Yes, it will be TFT

I want to run 1024x768 for the reasons that I always have and I have loads of wallpapers in that res lol.

I understand ms, but I didnt know what to look for, but you have helped me..thank you

What's your budget? Most 19" are much of a muchness since they nearly all use ther same panels anyway. I'd recommend Samsung as they have great quality and are fairly priced. You won't find any moitors runnign 1024x768 anymore, they run 1280x1024 but u can always stretch your wallpaper to fit. Everything looks much better run at native res of the screen, running non native makes it look blurry and smudged except for games which can still look ok.

If you watch a lot of movies or TV on your pc then I'd recommend going for a 22" widescreen which are pretty cheap nowadays, otherwise somethihg like the Samsung 940N or B is nice.
Yep, I'd just stretch the wallpapers. That will likely look better than running the resolution below native. Just make sure you use some software other that the windows background thingy for setting the image, as that stretch control does not constrain proportions, so will distort all your images by about 7%. Likewise if you run the monitor a 19" TFT at 1024x768, everything will be vertically stretched by 7%. Hardly an ideal compromise, although tbh 7% is too noticeable, particularly since most people don't seem to notice the massive 33% horizontal stretching when watching 4:3 footage on a widescreen TV.
I dont really have a budget, money isnt really an issue. But, then again...I dont want to spend stupid money.

I am now stuck between getting a 19" or a 22"

I am currently using, a 17" TFT, I'm not sure I will actually notice a huge amount of difference.

I think I will get a 22" monitor. Thanks for your help. Any more advice lol

from an overclocking forum, the UNINAMOUS vote is for the 19-inch Hanns G monitors - you can pick one up for about £125!
Will i notice much difference in 2 inches...I know the ladies might but will I when it come to my monitor
Definitely.

Though, personally, I prefer a nice CRT over any LCD. It's just a shame they don't really make any decent CRT's at a reasonable price anymore.

Oh god, this is so horrible

Anyhow, I don't know much about TFT monitors, but make sure to avoid those new (?) 2ms ones, which reach their ultra low reaction time by delaying the image for 3 frames. Which sucks royally.

I just got a 22" Viewsonic a few weeks ago. Step up from a 17" widescreen dell tv. Huge resolution increase, as well as screen area. It really lets you focus further down track, and brings you more "in the game". I love it. Wouldn't think about going back.

One thing to consider is, what graphical quality do you like to play at? I really love Full detail, with MAX AA and AF. At that resolution, my X850XT struggles a little bit when things get 'crazy' on the track. It really gets bad in GT Legends (which is very poorly coded).

I just got my G25 yesterday, and it paired up with my 22" Viewsonic, Really makes me feel like its real. I really was surprised by how real it suddenly felt, and I've been playing for years. I bought my parents a 19" lcd for Xmas, it was HUGE compared to the old 17" flat screen crt they used. I got it so they could be able to read print a little more easily, print pics, etc... , no gaming for them. Good luck, I don't think you'll be dissappointed with either.
Anybody know a 20"+ widescreen that will rotate to portrait mode? I'm in the market for a new box in the next couple of months and I think I've talked myself out of triplehead.
