What laptop should I choose.
My budget is $700 canadian. I really don't care what I get as long as it will run LFS properly. Could someone push into the right direction?

does it HAVE to be a laptop? and how much is that in £'s?

it does now i'm not taking a break from a maths extension practice paper - oh how i love Binomial Expansion :S

£310 will NOT get you a decent laptop, it will RUN LFS, but certainly won't do it very well
ok so how much in canadian do I need to pay for a good laptop...that will run lfs well.
The value of money isn't linear, you need to check what prices are over there - basically you want to have graphics with dedicated memory, even if the rest is entry level that will ensure that LFS is at least playable.

If you can afford it get a Sony - they come with loads of crap installed, but the hardware is good quality. If on a budget, check out Samsungs. Try to steer clear of HPs and Acers, I don't personally like Toshibas but some people do.

If you can afford it get a dual-core processor, graphics with 128Mb or more dedicated memory and 1Gb or more of Ram. Unfortunately laptops are pricey, so if you can live with a full size PC you can get more machine for your money
HP and Dell have good laptops. i bought a Dell XPS laptop but that s out of you buget i guess
yes it is. Will that one run lfs well...
That would run LFS very well, read what I wrote above and compare the specs yourself

I'm not a fan of Dell notebooks, having had to replace the motherboard on a whole batch kinda put me off ... they're usually a good spec for the money though.
NB that you came up with still has a graphics card with shared memory(read SLOW memory), so I'm not 100% sure about performance. But if that IGP can do at least primitive HVS(DirectX 8 compilant), it should be enough.
CPU power is what you want for LFSing, not Pixel Shaders and HDR Effects

do you HAVE to have a laptop? a desktop would be SO much better
OK, I Googled up that ATI Xpress 1100 series IGP and it seemes to be a "clipped" mobile version of X300 GPUs. That means that there is a DirectX9 support, so LFS should run on it suitably. Don't except 200FPS or abilitiy to play with maxxed details when on full-grided race. But after some graphics settings tweaking it should be all OK.
