[RANT] Did you hear that? Britain shooting itself in the foot for another year.
I appreciate that come to the real thing half of it is decided by voting blocks, all the Baltic nations vote for eachother but it doesn't exactly bloody help when we send to Eurovision an annoying pop act that are as cheesy as a brie factory and as camp as Dale Winton selling pink tents performing a rubbish song - exhibit A - their MySpace, for those who are fortunate enough to have not heard it. That rugby player blonde bloke was in a TV programme which involved faded pop stars in drag trying to be convincing.

We had this and this - but these public votes always select the act which will least suit the ESC.

Oh well, at least we will get a smack round the face with nul points again. But hey, 75% of the entertainment value is the crap ones.

Or maybe I should stop caring ...
yes i just watched it and well im not looking forward to the eurovision this year another big juicy ZERO here we come!i have never heard of this band before, and i dont like them you are correct they are just another annoying pop band. I dony know why Britain dont get a band that is a bit hit rather than a band that more than 90% or Britain have never heard of!!!
Yea i think so...well maybe just untill we get a decent band competing for the prize!

John
I feel your pain too, beeing a regular Eurovision watcher since 1998. I thought that all of the acts tonight were alright with Cyndi standing out for me but only because of the quality of her voice and she did look nice

When it came down to it I thought Hawkins and Brown weren't too bad. By i feel you are under estimating Scooch, as much as I hated their cheese pop song I think that it may do rather well, seeing the preview of the other acts i think they will fit right in It is also what Eurovision is all about, cheese and pop except Lordi as they rock!!

I dont think they will get a zero though.....

I was checking out the Eurovision webby earlier and found that Czech Republic are entering for the first time this year so I will be interested with what song and singer and whether we will actually make it to the Helsinki show. I think i saw correctly that Kabát a czech rock band was representing CZ.

Should be another night of frustration watching European countries vote for their neighbours and visa versa, a night of laughter at some of the cheese songs and weird performances but come may the 12th I will be watching with a can of beer.

mad
Maybe not but i havent seen any of the other countries acts so i dont know! Yea that is really annoying when you get all the countries voting for there neighbours, im a competetive person and dont like to see things being ruled by politics as i myself have been involved in sports with a lot of politics. Well we might not get a ZERO hopefully not but i still think that we should have picked a band or solo artist that is a favourite all around Britain!

Quite lot like stereotype from British pop band that is that was chosen, imo.

Meh, sheeps. They may make one good choice, but mostly they choose wrong, just shows how full democracy is never going to really work.
Wow, there's someone out there that gives a toss about Eurovision?

And who would that be? Name a few artists that everyone likes generaly across the UK that isn't already a celebrity or a star as they call those people. Also you are faced with a problem of appealing to the whole of Europe which is a tough task and I havent even mentioned the political voting that goes on. UK over the last few years have been entering mature classic performances which haven't appealed to the crowd at all and that is why they are always near the bottom but this year they picked something that is very pop, cheese, crackers and whacky totally different and I have a feeling that they will appeal more than UK's previous acts. Poor poor Jemini!

edit

Quote from JamesK :Wow, there's someone out there that gives a toss about Eurovision?

Quite a few million people throughout the whole of Europe as you ask
LoL nah i dont really care about it but its sooo anoin how we pick so crap artsits!

well there could have been Biffy Clyro that more people new off and you are allowed bands that are famous arent you because we had ABBA years ago? see shows how much i know about eurovision!
I'm not one to comment on the whole thing really, everything I hear on the radio either makes me fall asleep or throw up.

I think Lordi really proved a point last year, submit a real band with actual talent performing something memorable instead of forgettable lovely dovey crap, and people will take notice. No doubt the costumes and stage show helped too, even if the music is not popular itself, it's better to be remembered than be forgot.

Lordi would never not got elected to represent Finland unless some clever geeks would not misused voting system, don't ever think that our sheeps would be any more clever than yours, same brain dead mass it is
Sad, really.

Big-up the geeks, I say.
Better than last years.

Although its alot worse than "We are the winners". Which was last year's Lithuanian entry, wow. That was awesome.
I couldnt care less about this contest of "who has most nations as his friends" accompanied by having to listen to really bad singers and bands.
yes exactly zeugnimod that is all it is which ever countrie has the most friends (other countries) will win!
I wonder which country is the world's best loser, Geir Rönning representing this year?
I can't see Italians in this contest. You're lucky.

why do they insist on sending all of these nobodys? why not send an actual proper hit band, theres plenty of them (arctic monkeys, razorlight, the view), instead of some shitty pop thing that nobody likes? they could be in with a good chance if they sent somebody good.
The contents should be more about whether the voters think the band has talent and musicianship, rather than actually liking the song. Most people don't think like that though.
There is only one reason, and one reason only to watch the eurovision - To listen to Terry Wongan taking the micheal

I remember last year though, was out at nottingham rock city and they said lordi won and there was quite a cheer about that lol.
Quote from duke_toaster :Or maybe I should stop caring ...

Yes, eurovision sucks (except Lordi LOOL), we also send stupid pop (with some stereotypical flamenco bits) singers to there. It really ashames me that the music we export is the worst we have.

Music industry sucks, hail to the holy mule!!
Quote from Albieg :I can't see Italians in this contest.

That's because RAI pulled out of the ESC - they are still in the EBU though.
They were perfect Eurovision fodder, almost unbearable to watch. They will go far. What was that French bird doing? Like we're going to hire a French singer to enter Eurovision for us!

Probably because it's called the Eurovision Song Contest, not the Eurovision Cliche Metal Guitarist Contest.
Quote from Madman_CZ :Quite a few million people throughout the whole of Europe as you ask

oh well, I got halfway through it in 1983 then switched over. Havn't heard anyone I know talk about it ever since, apart from my other half, who is an Abba fan
Going to a friend's house, quaffing beers and having a chuckle at Eurovision is becoming something of a kitsch tradition down here. It's amusing to see disposable candy-pop trash being taken so seriously by so many millions We stopped caring down here after Abba won in '74, that was the highlight of the whole thing

The truth is, we're all secretly glad Australia can't enter, because we know our entrant would probably be more embarrassing than that woeful UK entry from last year (or was it the year before?)

I hope someone can answer me a question though: Israel enters Eurovision but clearly aren't part of Europe. What's the deal there?

The year before - quite rightly Jemeni got 0 points - they were horrible.

They are members of the EBU who organise it. They do some bits other than the ESC though
