Hello meekz, welcome to the forum.

You've actually already found the right place to begin -- the Beginners Forum! Now I'd suggest you have a look at the first 10 threads in this forum (especially the ones from 6th through 10th position) and you've found something that will take you a little bit further .

P.S.: And please, in case you have questions, do use the search function before opening a new thread. Some people can get rather irritated if you don't. Have fun.

You say you want help, but you've not mentioned a problem! If you have more specific questions, just ask, and people will answer. Until then you're on your own.

you begin by downloading and installing the game... then once you're in you should do the training... but if you're confident in your naturally acquired skills in driving then go for multiplayer and look for the right server for you... if you're into drifting there's lots of drift only servers... and if you're into racing theres lots of that too... just pick the right one for yourself... and start driving... try different things and if you still at a loss, read the stickies on the beginners forum

What is the problem you are having specifically?

Welcome, I am also a noob and have started on the STCC server using a UF1000. It seems to be a good place to start, the STCC servers give you the insentive to progress your STCC license from copper all the way through to platinum. I am still very copper...not come close to being competative as yet, maybe I'll improve when my G25 arrives, using a mouse is not great.

He would of course first have to get at least S1, but yeah better still S2 of course.

Also, I would personally not recommend going onto a server where the expectations are a bit high right away when you are totally new to (online) race sims.

I've had a lot of really bad races whilst trying to beat the first STCC levels due to newbies (and I do not mean it's bad to be a noob, everyone was at first!) that didn't know the first thing about driving going onto those servers and causing mayhem every single race.

If you are really new to this then I'd advice you to do the training first, maybe practise a combo you like with some AI and then going online, after you know how to interact with other cars on the circuit and you have learnt your braking points and all that stuff.

Of course if you allready know your way around a circuit and can handle the car then yeah, go online and just start competing! Ask for advice or maybe a setup when you see faster/better guys, and no doubt people will help you out and you'll get better soon enough.

And yeah those sticky threads mentioned above are great too!

Also after some time, you can just go onto a track and by feel, know the general vicinity of braking points, but that skill takes many years to learn. Also, the earlier STCC servers tend to be a bit sketchy, but usually it can be overcome with some detirmination to finish, becuase most of the idiots shift S, so next race you'll start ahead of them.

I have a dumb question of my own! Is it a bad thing or a gesture of appreciation if someone honks at you after you let them pass?

I just got S2 (for the servers more than the cars really) and am really enjoying racing on some of the servers (thanks STCC!).

I am not a fast driver, and realized that I'm even slower on these new fangled tracks I haven't even driven on before. So slow that I finally get my first blue flag...this was about right before the last esses on FE Club. I was not able to really let them pass until I reached the beginning of the straight. Did I wait too long?

I was going to make a thread about it but here was already a nice one so I will wait until I grace(lol) this forum with a thread started by **me**

I think i depends on who's doing the honking.
I wish the bloody horn was banned during races personally, I'm sure some people don't like being overtaken, and they start blasting their horn at you...very offputting.

I disagree, many times have I given a quick "parp" on the horn to let someone know I am there, peripheral vision isn't the best in computer games, so having that extra bit of sitiational awareness helps a great deal IMO.

However, honking for no reason, or if you have tapped someone is a bit of a PITA

You're quite within you're right to continue until the straight or position yourslef so you can be passed in the turn. You've paid for your licence and you have just as much right to be on track as the fast guys. Ignore people who say you should SHFT-S.

Obviously don't hold anyone up unnecessarily but at the same time, the driver lapping you must be sensible too and shouldn't tap pass you or anything. Watch how they deal with blue flags in real life motorsport - we should all behave the same way - this is a sim after all.

I use to do this if someone was letting me go by or something. I would give a quick short double "toot" as I went by. Then after watching a replay of one of my races that someone else saved, I noticed that my friendly "toot toot" sounded more like a single angry blast of the horn due to multiplayer lag. Thus, I quit with the horn and now give a smiley or thanks in chat, whichever happens to be binded at the moment.

I've found in some races you get everybody doing that though, and all you can hear is little "parp"s all over the place on the first lap...
