Must be a pro before s2 license?
Hello folks.
thats the first message of me in lfs forum.

I'm playing the demo version for about a month.
Im getting about 1.35 lap time in bl

But Im not able to drive rwd cars. It's hard to use them.
Question is: I wanna buy s2 license but can I develop it in the s2 servers?
Are there any pro-beginner or moderate players server? I dont want to be the slowest man on the track... And dont want to slow down the race (blue flags etc...) So should I buy a license right now? or wait until I get experience with rwd cars? thanks a lot...
Just because you're not a brilliant racer, doesn't mean you should've get an S2 licence. Trust me, there's a lot of us who can barely put down a half decent time, yet despite this we do race on S2 servers - infact I'd say that's half of the fun of LFS Most S2 racers should be able to cope with passing backmarkers safely, etc.
Buy the lisence right now, racing with faster guys on the S2 servers, who are likely to share their setups if asked very nicely, is probably the best way to learn how to race faster...
the more cars u have the faster u learn, as every car handles different.
there are quite a few "beginner" servers, also beginner leagues, so i dont think u need to worry that u will be too slow
and a month isnt that long, u surely will improve fast enough to keep up with the better players
I couldn't drive the RWDs when I got S2 either.

Get the licence

Everyone was slow to begin with, as long as you are courteous in your driving you will have no problems.

The STCC 'Bronze' servers are designed with the slower racer in mind, as a place to develop your skills.
Thanks a lot.
Those are the replys that I wanna hear

I think I'll be the s2 licensed driver tonight.
It looks like you already bought your license...
Welcome!

I would suggest going over to STCC 1b, the combos there are fairly easy to get the hang of. Has been hosting the uf1000(the mini) this past week or so now
Buy a wheel with Force Feedback too if you haven't got one already.

You don't have to be a pro. In fact, I think going online in S2 will help you get faster. The level of racing is higher than on demo servers, so you'll be able to learn from the more experienced guys by following their lines and trying your best to keep up with them.

edit> uhm....yah, oh...I see I'm late and you got your license already...lol

I couldn't drive the XRT in demo when I got S2, I still can't drive the damn thing lol
Yeah, thanks I bought s2

But I have to wait until evening, Im at work right now
Im unpatient about using bmw, (dont panic I will use it in practice mode )

thats good, so u get a feeling for the car(s) instead of joining a server and causing a huge pileup
I already have a wheel. Saitek r440

I like it overall. But pedals are slippery sometimes. I may change the wheel when I think its not enogh for the races.

I think that was the one I started with. But no FFB if it is the same one.
Yes, it has a non ff version (r-420 I guess)
So what do u think about it? How far can I go with that wheel??

Well, as soon as I used my mates Momo Black with FFB I went out and bought one myself.

The feeling you get from the cars comes mainly from the FFB so the game won't be as immersive without it. If you can afford one, buy one. If you are feeling particularly wealthy get a G25. The FFB is far better than the MOMO
I would certainly advise you to think about upgrading to a DFP or a G25 if you can afford it.
The force feedback in this sim is excellent, calculated in realtime, not effects based like ISI 'sims' , and it adds a huge amount to the overall feel of the sim.

And Welcome to S2 LFS

Edit....Damn..beaten to it by Gentlefoot :P
I was rubbish when I started. I'm still probably fairly rubbish now...

The STCC Bronze servers are a great place to start. Lots of people of a beginner to moderate skill, and people are *fairly* considerate if you accidentally cause a pile-up. An *accidental* one, mind...

As for the wheel, if you can't afford a G25, get the DFP - easily the best cheap wheel available: http://www.darkplanets.co.uk/p ... ech-driving-force-pro.asp

Its intended for the PS2, but as its USB works perfectly on the PC using the software for the MOMO wheel.

I remember that. In fact, we were in the same boat asking for help in the XRG/Turbo. And it was pre-S2, in the S2 demo release .

One thing to note that I think is a plus. We've seen many similar comments about "I'm not fast yet, should I get S2" or similar. I think it is much easier to learn when you have multiple variations on car/track combos to try in S2. With the demo, it is pretty much always Blackwood regular config and folks tend to stick with the same car, whether it is XF, XR or XRT, they stick with the one they like. Thus, instead of learning the art and skills of driving, car control, racing, etc, they more learn muscle memory from running the same car/track over and over again.

When you have more variety, even if you start and stick with just one car at first, you will learn more than just muscle memory. You begin to learn the way the car handles different corner or braking situations. Also, whether you recieve, download, or make your own setups, you will begin to have a large collection of very different setups for all the different tracks. It all combines to help in learning the craft of racing rather than lapping the same old track over and over again.

I started with LFS about 2 months previous to the S2 demo release and ran S1 demo as a complete noob. Then came the 2 months of the S2 demo where I met many of the S1 licensed drivers and I ran exclusively the GTi (sorry, XFG. It was commonly called GTi back then, which can confuse many nowadays) as it was the faster of the 2 non-turbos. After those 2 months, S2 was fully released (in alpha of course) and I immediately jumped into the FZR with my RWD noobness. I pretty much ran the FZR exclusively then for about a year until recently when I started on the STCC servers back to my roots with the XFG again.

Welcome to S2, to the OP author! Enjoy your stay.
Thanks for all golden advices And now time to drive s2 is aproaching minute to minute
