Does the AI have long-term memory?
Hello, I'm a newbie demo racer, soon to be S2 racer, who has just gone through all the demo training sessions and enjoyed himself thoroughly. I see there's lots more training sessions in the full game, but that's good because I need it!

Anyway, my question is about AI training. As I understand it, the AI -- which generally sucks -- can learn to race faster. Does the "knowledge" the AI learns carry over into the next time you start up the game, or does it only hold during that session? In other words, does the AI have long-term memory or just short-term memory?

Assuming the AI has long-term memory, is it possible to share this memory with other racers? I assume it gets saved to some file. Maybe some smart and dedicated racer has spent hours and hours training his AI to the best possible level, and if he shared the relevant files with everyone, then the rest of us could have immediate access to the best AI. Or maybe racers would develop different styles of AI, suitable for different tracks, and we could pick and choose those we liked.
Check the \data\drv directory. My AI are named after WWII figures!

Mine aren't. They're just called AI 1, AI 2, etc
There is an editor around that allows you to name the AIs easilly or to random name. You can also change their plates

Mine are getting long in the tooth - long term memory is fading and they have begun to show signs of AD (artificial dementia)... I hope I can retire them soon and bring in a new team of better trained AIs who are up to date with the latest racing technology and rules... those old timers just can't cut it in the modern world of tyre temps, pit stops and aero...
lol
My AI are damned fast (except for the one named 'kaski', wich doesn't ever seem to learn), My fastest AI is named 'Super Girl' and is faster than me on some tracks!

But,

none of my AI ever get goot times on KY1. They just 'wobble' and end up getting maxed out at 31:8x , where I run 31:5x average...

Oh well... If anyone has a 31:5x KY1 AI pass it my way!
duh, i have only good AI for KY1 / FOX.

Now that was fast! Welcome to S2

The AI remembers (or "learns") whatever car and track combo it practices. If you train one of your AI at Blackwood in the XRT he will still suck driving the XFG at Blackwood. He will also need to practice at other tracks before he improves there.
Has anyone got the AI to do better that 1:30 on blackwood with XRT? (ps. soon to be S2 ) They just seem so slow - I'm cracking 1:25s

hmmmm. =P

@Bendito: welcome, and I hope to see you around!

I don't got any good AI though...
I had no idea the AI learned - thats really impressive.

well, it still sucks, even after 100+ hours of training
they just reach pretty fast their limit, and dont really change their racing line which would be needed to get faster times, so theyre always stuck like 3 (or even more) seconds behind wr(ish) times.
In earlier versions of LFS you got the message "AI player saved knowledge"
Thanks everyone. Glad to be here.
