The online racing simulator
ive watched it with spectator before
I demand skidmarks in LFS! And whoa, it has better physics than rFactor, well done Becky.
[Insert begging for multiplayer version here]
Well you nearly got a multiplayer version of LFS Skidmarks tonight, but I tried writing it only to find I was already to drunk. Oh well.
I can run RaceWatcher, but when I click on a server I get the Error!
---------------------------
Error!
---------------------------
Memory access violation
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------
Skidmarks and Race Watcher both run at 2FPS. I know they would run better fullscreen but im guessing i cant?
nice ... i love it
has anybody else got massive slowdowns to a standstil for about 1 sec every now and then with skidmarks ?
and the autodownloader doesnt work all that well ... could you make it open up in the background ?
Cool very cool!

I'm having a hard time watching with the camera rotation. I hope you can have some sort of chase cam or hooked camera to the car you are viewing.

Good stuff.
GREEEEATTT !!!!

I was really waiting for a new lfs spectator!
I sent just 3 days ago an email with suggestions to original lfs spectator author, but sadly he answered that he has no more time for ehnancing it.

Your 3d race spectator is a really great news!
It will be very useful for leagues!

Have you extracted the update over an original copy? if you just download the update your missing a lot of files
Great stuff Becky, thank you. It will be very useful sometimes
Quote :If skidmarks was made multiplayer and clipping was turned off for cars itd be heaps fun.

Do you mean allowing cars to drive through each other like on some isometric race games? Personally i'd rather have inter-car collision because I think it makes for better racing - but I might make cars that have crashed able to rejoin into traffic before becoming solid again, we'll see what works.

Quote :i am little bit afraid....yesterday i was a little rowdy....i hope i ll not baned from the server

People have been 'deal with' before whilst I was working on Race Watcher and I saw things I thought where happening because there was no firm hand, so I logged on and gave them one. In this instance though all i've got is your confession ... so dont do it again!

Quote :I like the Live For Skidmarks... After a few hours of playing it i get an error: "Memory access violation"

It lasted a few hours? There's less bugs than I thought...

Quote :Any possibility to use lfs's skin_x folder?

I've not tried it, but if you put them into the root LFS folder it should work - but if you have patience it will download the skins at a rate of 1 every 30 seconds or so.

Quote :I don't even get a list of servers... the window just stays black. oO

This is because LFSW is not sending you a list of servers, there are two possible reasons. When you tried it there where too many people using the LFSW Relay service, or you have a firewall which is blocking my software from the internet.

Quote :Oh my god, who wants a cheap S2 license? I'm now playing LFSM

If it wasn't so damned addictive i'd have got a lot more done on it too

Quote :Getting memory access violation for race watcher.

Just one note: Race Watcher only works on LFS V5 dedicated hosts or later, V3 and earlier hosts will not work and can cause memory access violations. This is because of changes in insim and because when I was doing the skin update stuff there where no V3 or earlier hosts with players on and I broke compatibility. All STCC hosts are V5 or later, if it's crashing on those then there is a problem - otherwise please check with the server operators what version of the dedicated host they are using.

Quote :This will be great for watching the STCC rounds live

But you dont get my disjointed commentary!? ...

Quote :Finally a "free track mode" for the masses!

I was actually thinking of releasing it as a 'LFS Free Roaming Track Unlocker' as a laugh - but thought better of it.

Quote :I actually prefer LFSTV

I think the fact that it measures against LFSTV at all is something of an achievement. I always considered this sort of technology to be more about league race organisation such as team mates keeping track of a 24hour race, or server admins keeping an eye on their server, or leagues running multiple servers checking everything is working. With some new camera positions this could allow you to see the whole track at once - it really wasn't meant as a broadcast tool So i'm quite chuffed it could be considered an alternative, although, it's clearly got a long way to go in that respect.

Quote :Insert begging for multiplayer version here

I would very much like to make this multiplayer and release it, and there's a very good chance it could take off as a mini game in it's own right - because of that I would need to drop a word by the devs first to get their all clear - but i'm very keen to do it, I think it would be a good laugh.

Quote :Skidmarks and Race Watcher both run at 2FPS. I know they would run better fullscreen but im guessing i cant?

They both throw a lot of polygons at the screen with very little in the way of optimisation, I did plan on trying to make things run a bit smoother for slower computers, but getting it useable from 2fps might be a push.

Quote :has anybody else got massive slowdowns to a standstil for about 1 sec every now and then with skidmarks ?

This is a timing issue with the delta clock which can occur because computers dont all keep time at the same speed (1000ms on some systems is 1.02 seconds, and on others 0.98 seconds), I need to look at that before I make it multiplayer anyway so this will hopefully get fixed.

Quote :the autodownloader doesnt work all that well ... could you make it open up in the background ?

I've got a few more tweeks to do yet, but it will never be as seemless as LFS - i'm just not going to invest that much time in perfection

Quote :I hope you can have some sort of chase cam or hooked camera to the car you are viewing.

I would like to invest some time in camera control, but its a question of finding free time to do it. With the update posted above and use of a mouse wheel it is greatly improved - the next step from here though is a lot more work.

Hi, Becky... I'd really like to see what this race watcher looks like, but i get memory access violation, even after waiting 2 minutes(even with stcc) . Can you assist me with this issue, please.

I've extracted the watcher into lfs root folder. Only extracted the watcher.exe file. Anything else i should do? Should Lfs be running while running race watcher, perhaps?

hm thought so .... might be made worse by the fact that the clocks on an x2 have a habit of diverging maybe setting an affinity might help ... will report on that

going by the framerates i guess its safe to say you weren responsible for the cracktros back in your scene days ? ^^
Quote : Only extracted the watcher.exe file

There's your problem right there, it doesn't use any LFS media files at all except for the skins, you need to extract it all.

Quote :going by the framerates i guess its safe to say you weren responsible for the cracktros back in your scene days ?

I made two of those, they ran 50fps fixed each, but only 1 was used.

I know you said something about improved camera handling and I know about cinematographic trends these days, but is it supposed to be like this?
That happens with an Intel 915GM chip.
Live For SM works great though. Except for the fact that positional audio is influenced by the absolute position of the car relative to (0,0).
Well done so far.
Though for some reason I expected LFSM to have skidmarks. Silly me...

Er yeah kinda, I havn't set a default camera rotation. Press the right mouse button and it'll sort it out.
hm colour me confused ... i ran skids with affinity to one cpu and thought i solved the problem as it stuttered a lot less ... however running it right afterwards without any affinity tweaks it ran just as fine and a lot better than last night
Ah I see, it only uses 1 CPU anyway. I guess some background task was causing it yesterday
well yes of course but the problems usually occur when xp get the glorious idea to swap the thread between the 2 cores 10 times during each clock so that the game sees a different timer all the time

probably yes ... but then again im pretty sure i didnt have anything running that not running right now as well
ah well its running fine so what the hell

Another piece graeat utility thingy.
Thanks Becky, Awesome Work
