Personal exhaust tones
I was thinking, why not have it so you broadcast your exhaust sound options to other players.
So for example, when you join a server, you send a packet to the server, which then sends a packet to all the other players. This packet would contain the values you've set in the Shift-A screen for exhaust sound parameters.

I think it would be quite nice to have a diverse sound of engines on the starting grid all revving up, and it adds a little more to the personalisation of your car, along with skins/tyres/wheels etc.
Plus during the course of a race you'd probably be able to identify which car was along side you from sound alone if they've chosen something pretty distinct.

It wouldn't add any extra overheads that I can think of, and you wouldn't neccessarily have to send the WAV file that it's based on, just the slider settings.

And of course it could be an option in sound settings for the miserable people if they want everyones to sound like their own

I don't want to hear some goon's V12 XFG.
I'd love that, best way to distract someone for me, i always use Shift + N.

As far as I'm aware you can't change stuff like that as you can with the Tweak program. You can only change the way the combustion pulse is shaped in the exhaust.
Also remember, there are people that feel the same way as you about seeing random skins, but fortunately they have the option to disable the automatic download of skins in the Misc section of Options; which is why I proposed a similar option for something like this.

That's what makes this game good for me. The level of customisation and choice. I just thought this idea could expand on that.

On searching I found a thread by a guy asking how it currently worked in the Technical Support section, and whether other people would hear his; but no requests in this section unless I'm using the wrong keywords.

-1 there are enough hoons with bean tins on the end of their pipes IRL, don't really want to attract them here to one of the few escapes from them.
Fair enough maybe it's just me. Mods feel free to close this thread

Exhausts dont play tones ike magical rice flutes as such.
Carrera GT isn't far off.
i would like to see this. it would add a little realism in my honest opinion

I just hate when your car's sound is interfering with the another one of the same type and you get those freako resonance frequencies. Completely unrealistic and annoying, so

from me.

I understand though that some people consider it rice-boy-ish but as said before, the interference we have right now bugs me so much I'd cope with "my pipe is fatter than yours"-contests...

I just reckon it would sound nice and give the race more depth if everyone wasn't humming the same tune. Even if there was an option, or 3rd party application that just gave everyone random sound settings. It would sound nice on the flybys too when spectating. That's one thing that it really fails on for me. They all just have the same drone, and they all blend into each other when a pack goes past.
When I went to Le Mans each car had it's own sound which were all so different, and after a while you knew what was coming up just by its sound. The pack flybys were awesome because you had all the different sounds chopping past and it sounds really textured. Then again I'm a bit of an audio geek
Maybe just have 5 selectable presets set by the devs (as not to fall off of the riceboy cliff) like the horns? Since it would be just settings and not actual .wav files it shouldn't add too much (if any) overhead.
