Some more newbie questions
I have only been Living For Speed for about 5 days, so there are many things I still do not know. I've done all the training tests, and now I'm trying to master one car at one track at a time. I have a few questions I hope you can answer.

1) Can you cut a replay down to just the lap you want? I might hot lap 30 or 40 laps before I get a personal best, and I'm worried about uploading such a large resulting replay file to LFSWorld. Also, does LFSWorld know how to find the fastest lap in a 30 or 40 lap replay?

2) Where is this "Analyse for Speed" program that people keep talking about and recommending? I tried to go here to download it but the site has been down for several days at least.

3) My best time is 1:26.96 with the XR GT Turbo at Blackwood GP, but I notice on LFSWorld the world record is 1:23.10, and my initial reaction is WTF, I'm almost 4 seconds slower, I'll never be fast! Am I a lost cause?

4) When is it time for me to go online? My gut feeling is to wait until I am more stable, and can consistently do within about 3% of the world records on every track with a range of cars. But maybe I should wait longer (or shorter)? I don't want to spoil the online experience for more established racers.

5) I use Gear Change Blip and Gear Change Cut driving aids. I would like to try Gear Change Cut myself. I want to know when is the right time to momentarily ease off the throttle during a gear upshift? How long should I ease off the throttle? Do I completely ease off the throttle or only 50% or ... ?

Sorry for the length of this post!

First of all, welcome.

Don't think you can cut the size of the replay down. You can fast forward to the right lap though by pressing F3 I think it is. Slow the replay speed down again using F2 I think.

You're right - the AFS site is down. Maybe someone can email it to you.

You're best time is quick mate for someone who just started. I'd say you've done very well. Over time and with mileage we all just get faster. It happens without you even noticing.

Go online as soon as you have enough control of the car to not cause accidents. Respect the blue flags and don't swear, argue, badger people for sets while they are racing. Try not to get involved in other peoples arguments. I say very little to anyone when I'm online. I've never recieved a ban.

Turn throttle cut on upshift off and you may go slightly quicker. Leave blip on.

Good luck mate. Come to the R4R Server for some clean friendly racing. It's called R4RStockCup at the moment. Have a look at ww.R4R.org.uk too. It's good to get involved with racers who are clean and friendly all the time. Its a bit hit and miss when you join a server like RedlineRacing whether or not people are behaving themselves.

No, you can't cut it down, there is a limit to the size of SPR files uploaded to LFSW, not sure what it is though, LFSW finds your fastests lap regardless of the length

Hmmm......not sure, it was there a while back, but seems to have gone missing

No, you just need pratice and guidance, post a replay here, and someone will tell you where you are going wrong

As long as you are sensible, anytime you like, just take it easy and watch for others

I wouldn't bother, you gain more using flat shifting than you do cutting the throttle, until such a time that LFS penilises you for flat shifting that is
I'm a newbie too. Just a month older than you.

2) Where is this "Analyse for Speed" program that people keep talking about and recommending? I tried to go here to download it but the site has been down for several days at least.

I found it in recent days. If you give a mail account, I can send it via mail. It's not big in size.

3) My best time is 1:26.96 with the XR GT Turbo at Blackwood GP, but I notice on LFSWorld the world record is 1:23.10, and my initial reaction is WTF, I'm almost 4 seconds slower, I'll never be fast! Am I a lost cause?

In my opinion, 4 seconds difference in 86 seconds not a big problem. For a 5 days user, its almost perfect I think.

If you have a stable driving style, u should as soon as drive online. Becouse racing with fast guys teachs many more things about racing. Just be carefull in first turn of the race. If u are not sure u are stable at start ups, just let people pass you, and then tail them. I spinned in first turn of the Bl Gp last week, and caused a big accident. Then Im banned from the server for 24 hours.

How odd. Also try F1PerfView.

Don't worry. Even if you're very, very slow, as long as you can keep it on the track and you use your brain, you won't cause a problem

If I'm on a new combo and not at the back of the grid, and I know that I'll just get in the way, I steer towards the nearest side, signal if I can, then when the race starts I get straight out of the way and can rejoin at the back. If you're not too slow you will usually pick up a few places anyway after the T1 crash.

Welcome to LFS
Hi and welcome.

3 : No your defiantly not a lost cause as you say , you've only been driving LFS for 5 days. you will learn something and get quicker every day.

4: The time to go online is now Really, as long as you have common sense and have half decent situational awareness you will be fine. The only way to learn good online racing skills and manners is to get stuck in.
As long as you drive respectfully you will be fine
You will find (most) other drivers are willing to send their setups to you, just ask politely at the end of a race.

Make sure you have your look left/right buttons mapped for easy access would be my tip.

Good luck ..now get out there and race

I would say that this is much better than F1PerfView.

Which setup? That can make a lot of difference, I can run 1:25s but not too constantly, my body won't let me train as much as I would need to get enough good, but with good set that fits to my style I can get to that.

You can download my sets from setup section and try if those fits to your driving, surely I doubt that nobody can't drive WR with those, but for stable competitive times those should be ok and specially for longer racing.

Never noticed that before. Looks good, will have to try it

User interface in that is just at least 9+++ compared to F1PerfView and somehow I find graphs also much more clear to read
Thanks for your help! I have found LFS Replay Analyser very helpful in determining where I am going too slow, or taking the wrong line, or braking too much. Now to put that knowledge into practice!
Another advice would be watching some WR's replays, you would learn a lot with it.

Even if you lack a lot of experience, you'll see the good lines to be fast

Yes, thanks, that's exactly what I've been doing. I lose a lot of time after the back-straight, negotiating all those curves and turns. Also, I notice that the WR driver takes a much more optimum path, using more of the track than I do. And he consistently hits the apex and applies the throttle earlier than me and applies less brake than me! Very educational.
