Head turns the "wrong" way
I searched quite a bit but I apologize if this has been discussed and I missed the thread.

For those of us driving on the left side of the car, the head still automatically turns to the left when hitting "look rear" or whatever. This is a problem in some of the vehicles. The solution is to first look right then back, but that requires more coordination than I apparently have.

Is there some fix to this that I don't know about? It makes looking behind in cars like the FZR really hard.

Nope no real 'fix', it is just better if you have look left and look right buttons bound to your controller and press & hold look right then hold look left and it will look properly. I actually wish that the cockpit view could use a 'no draw' function when looking behind... instead I just use a custom camera rather than the cockpit view because with that there are way too many obstructions of my view.

Also I think if you turn the wheel to the right a bit and then press look behind, it turns to the right.
Edit the view settings so that you are always looking 0.01 to the right, then you will look over your right shoulder...
Tristan that works brilliantly, thank you.
But watch out, this only works reliable when you're NOT using the "move view with animation" and "look where you steer" functions. Otherwise you may end up looking slightly to the left suddenly causing you to look over your left shoulder again.

The only really secure way I know about is to record a macro (usually done in the profiler software of your wheel) where one button first presses the right look and after a very short delay the left look button.

Actually I think if you use custom draw and set its mode to "external 2" the car mesh disappears as soon as you hit one of the look buttons. Otherwise it's the same as the normal in-car view. And as a bonus you can adjust the view abit so that maybe the a-pillar doesn't block the view too much, etc. But I think you know that anyway.

do real racers ever look back? sides are ok in RL, but for back we have mirrors, isn't it so?
Actually you are right, from a realism point of view the amount of head turning available is wrong (especially with the HANS system). There were already some suggestion threads to make the amount of turning customizable, instead of 90° steps (which I would highly appreciate).

I agree that it isn't realistic, but unfortunately with a realistic field of view its very difficult to ever see the right two mirrors. I don't have fancy key-bindings or special views, maybe I should make one that has me directly look at the mirror.

Its a lot easier in real life, because you get more context clues in your vision about what's happening on the mirror, and a mere flick of the eyes lets you look directly at the mirror.
