The online racing simulator

Funny how the general feeling on this board is that what truly matters in a racing sim is realism, yet helmet and suit less drivers in racing cars seem to be an exception on this.
If LFS wants to be perceived as a serious racing simulator silly things like this will have to go.
It should at least be made client-side. After all, some people say why should you care about it being used. Well, then obviously people who use them shouldn't care that other people can't see their t-shirts and weird faces.
If a hack would be made available that (visually) strips the car of it's body would some people still say why would you car how other people's cars look like?
Quote from Venus :jeez; who cares... keep ur head in ur own car lol.. jeez wot a petty thing to pick lol... Personally I like racing with helmet suit etc... but if some ppl wanna look like they are driving a street car, well as far as I'm concerned, its their business. Do people tell you how to dress? How your car should be skinned?

I'd say simply; don't be so pedantic.

But it's annoying.

You spend some time getting your camera angle set up for a nice capture for a movie or screenshot and then you realise in the background someone thinks it's cool to drive a BF1 with no helmet... That just looks silly!

And to some one else it'l look xtremely cool. Why does it bother you how other people look? let them look silyl in your eyes on your screenshot or movie, it's only someone else.

Realism for me is in the driving and the competition. Pictures on the screen are just info telling me where things are, how they are reacting. If I were to meet someone driving naked on a real-life track, it would not bother me in the least. Their business, not mine.

That said, I can see how this would matter to someone making movies. But I can't honestly say I have ever seen such skins on line yet (though I know now that they exist). So I can't honestly say its a big deal.

Yes well, if it was made client side it will still look extremely cool... for them.
I already explained why it bothers me (although it's a bit of a big word for it) I think it looks unrealistic and only helps reinforce some people's opinion on LFS as being arcadey (which it's not of course). Do I care about that, yes I do.
It ruins the experience for me.

Whenever this discussion comes up, the standard response is always something along the lines of "why do you care?" or "big deal" Well, if you don't care about it, that's perfectly fine. But it's like I (or someone else who shares my opinion) have to defend why I have my opinion.

As much as you wonder why I want it removed, I wonder why you would be against removing it.

Well, then the devs might as well graphically strip down to untextured cars and tracks. Realism and immersion entail more to me. Ofcourse the driving and competition is the most important, but the visual aspect is important to me as well and has a great influence on the immersion.
wouldn't be that bad if they were of good quality, they look rubbish because they are so low poly.

The skin files to replace the gloves isn't too bad though because you hardly see it.
Its not that DT but the thing is that it ruins the racing experience. "Im going over 200+ naked without clothes and helmet" That ain't right. I mean you can use no gloves and thats it no more funny sh1t, heck its not even funny with racers without no clothes on(i spoke my mind)

Would solve your problem....

No it wouldn't, but you already know that if you actually read my post.
Besides that, the hack would still be possible as it's not textures making the drivers look like that. But that's beside the point.

I'm not against removing it, this just ranks alongside the skin with blood splatters - complaining about other people's taste (or lack thereof). Easiest solution that would please both camps would be to disallow their use in single-seaters.
I'm against them in the road cars too ... when on a race server. They do destroy the ambience of the racing experience for me when I notice them online and I dont like them. They're pretty rediculous in a race environment, and I really wish this mod wasn't developed because there is no way to override it locally at the moment - except when viewing replays.

I think the only way that LFS can solve this 'problem' is to either remove them - which I accept would be bad. Or to add support for them officially and include an override option on the server. I just dont think that will happen until the models have been reworked and improved.
