CTRL-SHIFT changes tire temp display- why?
Is there a reason that holding CTRL SHIFT (show username) while the F9 display is on subtracts a degree (sometimes two) from the tire temps, and then changes back when you let go?

edit: This was noticed while parked after a race. So what's said below makes sense. Anyway, it's a revelation to me, I 've never seen it mentioned before. Kind of like clutch damage, but not fictional

CTRL-SHIFT shows the tire surface temperature rather then the avg temp of the tread depth.

If you hold CTRL+Shift while doing a burnout, the temp display will go up to 300!
AH, so it's obviously the tire's surface temp, rather than average "pad" (full depth) temp.

So that thread awhile ago regarding whether or not LFS calculates tire surface temps separately... obviously it does, so I was right. :hide:

Can't remember what that thread was about, I'll see if I can find it.

Edit: here is the thread

Hmm, curious, I must test this...
Just did thorough testing, that's definitely what it is. Surfaces cool down on straights, get hotter in corners / wheel spin etc. Give some curious insight into the tire model.

I don't understand how this was not widely known?
Generally when I hold down Ctrl-Shift, I'm looking at the connections list, not at my tyre temps.

Just think how many people don't know about Shift-L, every now and then we'll get a thread about someone with it stuck on who's never seen it before and doesn't know how to turn it off.

n00b!
Heh, hidden secrets everywhere.

Typical day in the world of LFS

Just a slight OT: When I press CRTL + SHIFT my keyboard config changes to Latin 1.. it sais "Keyboard: Latin 1" in the message display. What I can't figure out is how to go back to my Central European layout again. Any insight? Thnx.
Alt+shift
It doesnt change the actual temperature, just the display (I think)
Very intriging info
Never the less very helpful i think, now that i know it

Maybe someone crazy enough could creat a database of this little details widely unknonw for the general population.
The LFS X-Files or something hehe
Most people who have been around for a while know most (if not all) of this kind of stuff. This one's completely new to me, though.
hmmm interesting...

I wonder if the different tyres (i.e. road, road super, slicks, etc) have different characteristics on sureface temp heating?

Nice observation BBT
Reminds be back in the S1 days. I were really annoyed because It weren't any way to type in the exact value you wanted in your setings, you only had the sliders.

So I went to the forum asking if this were going to get implemented, the first post told me that I could just press the right mouse button. lol.

I love LFS, it have so many secrets
This is excellent, thank you very much.

Would someone with the POWER please add this to the LFS Wiki perhaps?

That's going to make diagnosing setup faults immeasurably easier.

Kind of makes me wonder why this wasn't documented, or why it's not shown as a single pixel line above the existing "pads" on the F9 display, and/or the temperature numbers simply shown above the current ones simultaneously

Perhaps there's something about the interaction between the two temps, or the interaction between the "hidden temperature" and the road that's not quite done yet or something? Doing an angry burnout (you know the kind when you go out of control and since noone's around you just hold it down because you're mad? Or is it just me that does that once in awhile?) in the FO8 last night I noted surface temps of 400C, which seems awfully hot. Of course it plummets very very rapidly when you have some mercy on the tires, and maybe that temperature isn't wrong - I don't know. I guess all you really need to know is the specific heat capacity of rubber?
Its probably still in development, like the sound editor was... I guess this was probably to be documented in the next incompatible patch updates, when more work is done to the tire modeling.

LFS did it to me... I guess the rescent patch fixed this "bug," as CRTL + SHIFT now fixes it self. Thnx for help though.
Holy crap
hm its been in lfs at least since p/q
