The online racing simulator
Quote from [RCG]Boosted :yea but its only good with wheel.
with mouse / keyboard it just has a way too sensitive steering.

You really need to tweak the setup for mouse/keyboard driving.
- Lower the steering lock. In the Control Panel, set a low mouse motion speed.
- Experiment with the setting for parallel steer. A high setting makes the car twitchy, in my experience.
- Set the diff-lock setting low. Start at 3 or so, then take it higher if you can handle it. WR sets have it at the maximum (20), but that makes it hard to accelerate out of turns without spinning.
Quote from Batterypark :I don't understand why people raced the MRT in the first place...

It seems the MRT is a bit like marmite, you either love it or you hate it.

I remember when it first came out and it was all that people raced. I still have more laps around SO1 in the MRT than anything else, so many great races.

Imo most people think the handling is differcult because it's different to all the other cars in LFS. Once you've mastered it - like everything else - it's a great drive and easy to push to the limits.

The MRT does suit South City even with it's bumps. I'm hoping I'll see an MRT, South City race this bank holiday weekend.
The MRT5 is great fun, I would only ever agree to it's replacement with the MRT9, which looks like even more fun. Even the twistiest tracks in LFS are a bit too fast and straight for the car though, take it to a challenging autocross circuit and you'll realise why it's so much fun.

Also for people thinking back to S1 times (when it really did handle like shit but gave you a huge buzz if you could ride that knife-edge), it's an absolute joy now, and you can slide it around nicely without fear of impending death.
I like the Mrt, and I often look for Mrt servers, when I want to race. I like the medium tracks with the Mrt (AsClub, FeGreen, and so) and I hate the short ones.

The long city tracks, are the best with a Mrt
I like racing the MRT, it was the first car in LFS that I really "mastered" but I think that's the problem, it's not fun when the people your racing go so slow because they will crash if they do, or if they go to fast and crash.

I've only ever had a couple of fun MRT races and they were leagues races, apart from that pick up and play servers havn' been much fun.

Shame really, such a fun little car to drive when you get the hang of it.
I like to toss MRT/ AutoX Circuit layouts up on teh ZWR server occasionally. Anyone interested in a league?
I was last night on one MRT AS1 server. It was quite fun. But yes, it is bit nasty car to control. Especially if you drive with mouse like me. I don't think it is the wheel you need, but the pedals (like with most RWD cars).
I don't understand why so many people think the MRT is so hard to drive. It is quite easy with a looser setup. My rear springs are as loose as they'll go and the fronts are only slightly stiffer. Sure it tips like a drunkard on corner entry, but the car is very stable, enabling me to push harder and thus be faster. It is actually quite easy to four-wheel slide through corners with a soft setup, whereas with the wr sets it's bloody impossible.
I love the MRT. One of my favorite, if not my fav to drive.
the only car that i race in is the mrt
i love it

yep, almost the same here. i dont really have time to race online now, but i'm practicing mostly with mrt. most of my friends who try lfs at my place also find it very enjoyable, so it seems to suit beginners very well. cruising around kyoto long recently was surprisingly lot of fun.
Well admiting that someone loves mrt and others don't, won't solve anything...what to do?

For starters i'm going to set my team server to fe4 mrt config..will see if somoene will visit it ..
Probably already been mentioned, but the MRT was the only open wheel car until S2, and a lot of people drove it like mad.

Depends on what you want though, LFS does offer a lot of variety
( i didn't say enough, I said a lot )
I agree with what some others have said. The MRT can be fun, but only on the very short, very twisty tracks or autocross circuits (what it was designed for). So, it makes for a nice diversion but can get boring in a hurry.

I would much rather have a Formula Ford than the MRT. Still open wheeled, still no downforce, still relatively low horsepower, but a longer wheelbase which makes it a more stable and predictable car. Such a car would be at home on more tracks and would probably get driven quite a lot. It would also be the perfect newbie vehicle.
#40 - aoun
there was a championship for aussies at autocross with mrts.. very very tight tracks but good overtaking chances which made it awesome!! but too many got busy and it stopped ..

Well, after racing shane last night on a multiplayer server, we found it was very close racing, if no spins were there. The MRT will always be my favourite car/kart like thing. Best place for it is either the autoX topgear(attached, not mine) and blackwood. If i had it, the kyoto ring would be a great place for close and dangerous track for the MRT to get maximum speed. Gang of smilies
I think the MRT is really fun to drive the first 15 minutes I drive it. Then, when the laptimes gets better and I get used to the car, I also start to hate it...

But still it's oh-so satisfying when you master it.
WOT.Racing server on MRT + citylong now!
I used to love racing in the MRT. Like a few others, it was the car I ran the most in S1. Since S2 came, I haven't had the opportunity to race it much, because, like most others, not a lot of people want to race it in favor of the newer cars.

Regarding a league, we (the League Of The Americas) are currently looking into doing an MRT league on custom tracks at the autocross area. Each event is random start on the first 20-minute heat, with reverse starting on the second and third 20-minute heats, with each heat awarding points. This league will probably run on Tuedays. We are planning a test event soon (probably on Friday evening). Each track is custom designed for racing/passing room and to allow for space to get out of shape.
