I'd love to do something like that mate. All we have to do is name them the same I guess. Not ever used insim but I'm sure I'll suss it out.
As for sets for everyone, I haven't got one yet either but I'm sure if we are all working on it we can come up with something decent.
btw - server is now up and running but unfortunately there is another server running the same combo now. Oh well, I'll stick to the plan - race at 21:00
I hate the F08 mostly beacuse i cant control it, even in a straight line setting off.
Its ok once your up to about 50 and going round corners but if u make one mistake you pay the price.
Been an FO8 fan myself ever since it came out... and these are the tracks that I think suit the car well (in terms of raw speed and requiring excellent throttle control)
AS North (or REV)
WE REV (though kind of lacks some braking)
SO Long REV
SO Town (or REV)
FE Gold (or REV) (I would also recommend Black, but its too long for online racing)
FE Green REV
BL REV
KY National
AS Club (though it is a common FOX track, trust me, the racing is great with FO8 on this track)
All other AS Tracks are just too boring for the car, and too big for most people online. These tracks I listed here are a damned good selection for racing .
If you do decide to require pitstops for the server, take into account how the tires last in a race. With the FO8, you of course will burn up the tires for a sprint race, and changing them would actually be a waste of time. If you do long endurance races, staying on one set for about 40-60 mins is possible, and the tires get uber grippy at the end of the stint -- all possible to beat WR times no problems . Fun car, just choose the tracks wisely so that people don't get overly frustrated. The FE tracks will be the most frustrating, but the ones I've listed there are a RUSH to drive on, regardless if they are narrow and hard to pass on .
These are all the setups I used for my LOTA Season 1 championship that I won . All are capable of WR times or better (some AS ones are probably not so good anymore), and they all are great for Qualifying, Sprint, and long Races .
Seems it's just going to get time to get used to the car again, I've now got a couple of sets that seem to suit me well just got to stop driving it so tensely, always trying to fight it. It's surprising how long it takes to get back into this car and probably explains why so few ever learn to drive it.
Decided to join the f08 night tooo... slightly late mind. Have never in my life driven f08 at Aston Historic Rev and it showed too but towards the end when everyone left i got the hang of it and could actually make a 2.10 around the track lol but mainly that was thanks to a guy called Rob (no idea who you are on the forum) which helped me with the setup....
I really like the car, a handful to drive but once you actually make a drivable set its not too bad!
aha.. there you are. Hello! again cheers for the set.. helped a lot. I will need to practise with the car a lot more, its actually rewarding to drive it and be fast.
Yeah, its one of those cars you cant really get bored with. I need to get faster, you're too fast now Got to break into the sub 2:10's (maybe one day we can reach the 2:06 some guys were running)
Any wednesday night during a season, the other LOTA members and I are often practicing for a race that takes place the following night. Earlier on, we usually keep it on qualifying mode, but later when everyone's pretty comfortable we do sprints of 6 or 8 laps, depending on the length of the track.
I turned up late too. Had a few fun runs but by the time I'd got the hang of the combo (and got a decent setup from csimpok - thanks!) there was only Rob and Madman still there.
OK so it wasn't as boring as I thought - I'd say not as bad as AS National but not as good as AS North.
A great success I thought last night. I had some great fun and some good racing with a lot of clean drivers. The standard was excellent when you consider how quickly these cars can bite.
Only issue was my connection. Once we had 7 or 8 people on the server it started to lag. It even threw us all out at one point but there was at least 12 of us on there. In the end we moved to another server.
So, I plan the same thing again tonight but this time a different combo. I'm thinking Kyoto GP Long Reverse. We can use my server to get together again and if we have problems we can all move like last night. It's a good meeting place though.
KY GP Long (rev or normal) is really a terrible track for the FO8 imo . The transfer from the circuit onto the oval is the worst part, and only the slow corners are the most fun there. You should really do a track that keeps the racing close, because KY GP is one of the tracks that has a hard time maintaining that with the FO8 and a mix of drivers.
Can we do KY GP Long going round the normal way? The reverse track is not as flowing and we'll just spend all night watching people skid across the gravel at the first turn and take out people at the apex.
(I also equalled the WR on the normal version during OWRL practice so it would be a good excuse to try to better that)
OK we'll see - I'll see what other servers are up tonight. If there are no other servers running KY GP Long Normal then we can do that instead. But I want to create some choices for people, hence choosing wierd combos that no one ever races.
I'd still like to try it in reverse though. Means no one will know it to start with which always makes the qualifying sessions fun.
I've always enjoyed the FO8 at South City, and I mean always, even when the tyres were a bit weird and easy to slide. Just so much fun putting down that much power through some bumpy tarmac on opposite lock inches from a barrier whilst planning an overtaking move as your fuel becomes critical...
Ah Bliss!!!
18:30BST eh? I might be available for a race or two then, depending on what my final plans for tonight. I should be fitting brake pads on my hairdresser car, but the FO8 is a lot more fun
Personally, I think the FO8 is fun just about everywhere. I've been driving it pretty much exclusively while the LOTA season has been going on, and we recently even drove it at FE Club for a CoRe vs. DSR challenge (that'll make your head spin...).
I personally disagree with Tweak re: KY Long... really enjoy it, but I can see where he's coming from. To be fast with the FO8 there you have to disregard safety/common sense, which is sort of a drag.
And I can vouch for Tweak's setups. Saved my ass more times than one this season.
South city sprint sprint 1? fun track to use the FO8 on! Was always good with the FOX. Maybe it should be left to a select few for now though, so we can at least get one lap in.
