Just wondering where everyone is at/applying to for University?

I'm applying this year through UCAS, application sent off a few days ago.

Would be great to see some fellow LFS'ers when I go to Uni!

I'm applying to East Anglia (UEA), Nottingham and Durham

At a junior college right now (for 2 or more years now), doing more than half of my required major's courses there because it is cheaper and by the time I goto the University I apply to (will be either San Jose State University, or San Francisco State University), it should only take me less than 2 years to complete the final course studies. I'm a busy guy with my education.

I recomend you to STAY AWAY FROM SALFORD!
It sucks more then a lady of the night on special offer.

I so regret picking this uni. But then my first choice wouldn't take me because I failed maths... twice >.<

Currently in my junior year at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), majoring in electrical engineering. I transfered in as a junior after 2 years at a county college (I guess also known as a junior college?).

I always wanted to go to university. Unfortunately here there are none of interest (job related currently).

Ah yes maybe I'll come to USA sometime and see what it's like!

Yeah or 'community college'. Just not an acclaimed 'university' like you'd normally picture college as.

did a 1 year millwrighting program at BCIT (british columbia institute of technology), then a 2 year program at BCIT to get a 3rd class boiler operator's ticket.

worked for a few years, got my jouneyman millwright ticket.

now i'm in my fifth and final year of Materials Engineering at the University of Alberta in Edmonton.

I'm at Brunel, and it's okay, but it quite expensive, and Uxbridge itself is one of the least glamorous locations possible.

My father went to Salford many years ago to read Mechanical Engineering, and apparently it was damn good then. But he advised me not to go there cos it's, errr, not as a good now

Heard some good things about UEA, and it has the advantage of being about 5 minutes from me Or was that a disadvantage??

Stay away from So'ton if you got any brains!! There's NOTHING here to look forward to. Nothing I tell you. TBH the more north u go the better.

I'm not sure what I expect to be honest. I'm half expecting that they all refuse me; luckily I've still got my job to fall back on. To be honest, I really dont see so'ton offering me a place, but the course at cardiff sounds great - but I'm not sure I could put up with the welsh (nothing personal).

I've heard similar stories, from the University Guide 2005. Although the University was rated as Uni of the Year in the guide, the social scene was bad - as you have mentioned. Its more of an academic choice for me than anything else.

Only reason I'm applying to Wales is because living just inside it (20m or so - close enough so I can leave if the natives revolt ) and the local council will pay my fees

I'm there for comp sci with distributed and mobile networks - although I might transfer after the first year, depending if I get the choice

I'm only across the water as well, so its its not bad for me to get home I've not looked into paying fees yet. That could be tricky.

They mainly specialise in Research into VR and such, and audio. But the way I see it is jack of all trades, master of none. Plus I don't think it helps that they have started to move all the schools around, so nothing is setup/working. For three weeks we had no network in the computer labs because some moron builder hooked the network into the mains, and it was taking out computers. illepall

Plus too many idiots are allowed on any course. I'm doing comp sci, and a relative knowledge of computers would be expected. As part of one of the course we use Linux, as I was giving away Linux to people on comp sci, one else(I ordered 60x Ubuntu CD's they are just taking up space).
Someone asked me for one, I asked his chip type, he didn't know. Bells rang, but I let him off. So I asked him what OS he was running... he didn't know. I cryed that day.

Lol, same stuff in So'ton.. it's unbelievable in yr2 ppl have no idea what they're talking about in seminars. Ask them a question and they dictate what they said b4. Even worse.. ppl was having probs w/ 'O'-level maths etc etc. Point is, do a vocational course, get a job, get ur employer to pay for retraining (uni course ) and invest ur student loan, get rich

Woo. They'll take anyone you know. I never even considered Portsmouth myself as I wanted to move away from home, but I think the Uni is quite reasonable. The city isn't marvellous, but certainly cheaper than Bath!

The Institute, aka So'ton Solent Uni, and yes the theme's rather obvious lol. Shittier than the shittiest shithole

Animation course at Compucollege here in Newfoundland Canada. I really wanted to learn 3D and this course is the only thing close around here. We do classical animation, life drawing, all that stuff, but all I really want out of it is the Photoshop, illustrator, and Maya. I hope to take some other 3D Modeling and Dynamics courses for Maya and maybe Max since thats what I wanna focus on, cause the course im in is geared toward the animation mostly, most projects we just have to make premade models move and act cool, we can make our own(I usually do) for the projects but it really cuts down on the time factor(model, rig and animate in the time we are given to just animate)

First semester of a mechanical engineering degree here at St. Cloud State University in MN.

I went to Nottingham 92-95 and read Civil Engineering. Great place with great nightlife (or was then). Married with 2 kids now so don't really go out at all!

Judging by Tristan Cliffe's number of posts the work load at Brunell is not to bad so it may be worth a try!

Actually quite a lot of work, but Firefox exists nicely in the background of Word :P Oh, and the first year (of Mech Eng) is easy

Southamptons good for marine architecture, if you like sailing :boat:

I say OU all the way, ok so it will take longer, but I work as well so I get to eat more than beans, and no lectures! If they do the course you want, Id seriously look at it, needs a fair bit of dedication though.
