i hardly ever race S2! I only bought it because i think the demo alone is well worth the money!
Since the demo is free, it certainly is well worth the money

You did what?

You bought the S2 but race only on Demo servers? And complain that people are "noobs" on the demo servers?

Oh man! This has got to be the best thread ever.

Quote from Woz : I have always classed people as noobs UNTIL they are able to complete the distance in MOST races they take part in.

Woot woot! I'm not a noob!
Hey, I'm noob. That's a fact.
Is that reason why I must not driving in LFS? Is LFS only for people like "I'm experienced, who is better?".
I think not.
Nobody is perfect and nobody know everything from first moment.

I don't want to be a obstruction for better drivers, but ... sometimes it happens.
I still trying to learn and I hope once I'll be good driver as they are. Although they called me "noob" now.

"and the award for "completly missing the point" , goes to........"

the purpose of this post is to point out how the attitudes\skill levels of (noobs) has completely changed for the worse in the last couple of years.

NOT to moan about the fact that they ARE noobs
to give you an example of 2 recent trends :_

1: a player comes into a server and renames himself as someone who is allready in server, then procedes to cause havoc.

2:a group of friends go into a server and vote to ban people with the intentions of completly banning the entire server.

one more point:- you seem to be under the impression that the demo is for "Noobs Only"- ooo how wrong you are my friend

for the 100's of hrs entertainment that demo has given me, i consider the money i spent supporting the game well worth it actually!
I don't think there is much difference on the demo servers from now to several years ago

The majority is people giving LFS ago for the first time and are therefore quite clumsy but at times have good races, then there is a lesser group that just likes to create havoc because its just a game, and then there is an even smaller group who although being quite experienced race there notheless because they like the combos and the close racing it endears.

So as it has always been 80% or more servers are filled with people trying out LFS, 10-15% are just stuffing about like the teenagers they probably are, and 5-10% are more mature experienced racers that race seriously on servers that are controlled by admins generally.

S2 is not all that much different there is just alot less of the second group and the third group makes up a much larger segment of the pie than on demo. Although there is still plenty of newbies coming to grips with the combos on S2.

The same happened every day on demo servers in January 2005.

Its the demo, 50+% of the "racers" there are only there to wreck and cause chaos IMO. And thats probably an understatement.
LFS has become more popular (which in a way is a shame, as more and more of the newbies are NFS junkies, or ricer wannabes), and so there are more people in the demo servers (and in S2, but we're talking demo, so I'll stick with demo comparisons).

Now, lets say that 10% of people (in demo mode) are ill-mannered, bad-driving noobs/wreckers. If you have ten times the total people, you have ten times the noobs/wreckers. Simple. The ratio hasn't increased, although the probability of getting lots on a server has increased.

But then, the standards in demo land are well known, and any 'complaints' should and do fall on deaf ears.

What's the point of even doing a hotlap, especially when they are off the WR by 10s of seconds...

Well, position 750 in the hotlap charts for the XFG at Bl is 1.35.550, which is about 2 and a half secs off the WR.

Well, I'm a "noob" but there are points where I do wonder what other people are thinking. Last night going into turn one a "competitor" made no attempt to even slow down. When he went flying past me into a bunch of cars it was like watching a bowling ball take down a bunch of pins.

Then after another start I got knocked out of a race when the driver behind me wasn't paying attention to the fact that I was trying to slow down. I guess the best way to take turn one on Blackwood is with your foot on the accelerator? Don't even lift?

I'm not perfect... as I make my own mistakes. But it sure is annoying to be taken out at the very first turn and having to wait 5-10 minutes for a restart.

On servers with this kind of behaviour, its good to have your mirrors setup well, and pay close attantion to them... you can usually spot if an idiot decides not to brake, don't corner as close to your limits in these situations so you can easily avoid the fool and watch him fly past you (hopefully not taking out too many other racers). Also when you know who's being an idiot, you can check where ther are in relation to you, and decide better where to position yourself at T1 entry for maximum safety (remember that any drivers he shunts are as dangerous as he is). I guess it's all about awareness, and in T1 it's as much about what's behind and beside as about whats in fromt

On Topic now:
I'm another driver who spends quite a bit of my racing time on demo servers... Often I can't find a populated S2 server running a combo I like, and one I do like is XRT BL1, so demo is good for a quick race or 10...

My personal feeling is that the quality of racing and the ammount of wrecking is pretty much as it was in the early days... maybe the first year or so '02 - '03, things were better as the community was so much smaller, but in my experience, it hasn't changed much since then...

still can get some good racing in demo or in S2 :-D

cheers

Col
You can avoid "New" drivers most of the time, all you have to do is to wait for them to have their next accident and if your patient and lucky enough your past with minimal fuss, we all get frustated but i guess we shouldnt lose sight of the fact that its only a game and they only thing you gain is bragging rights.

I will try to remember that the next time im cussing because I was just taken out lol.
we gotta keep the useless lfs members something to complainabout hence the noobs :P j/k
Quote from theirishnoob :we gotta keep the useless lfs members something to complainabout hence the noobs :P j/k

Note the first line of my signature underneath my name.
*sighs* has it ever crossed your stupidly-overlycompetitive little mind that the reason some of these guys are "noobs" is because they cant get peace to get some race practice, i pray for the day a new driver can come into a race and be helped on his way.
And it does happen - just most people posting here are the disgusting underbelly of the LFS community who take great pride in mocking other peoples progress in a game...
What makes it worse is that some of these negative individuals are supposedly well respected members of the LFS community...

I had an extremely hard time learning LFS, partly because of my hot temper - if someone calls me a noob i usually fight back with a tirade of abuse lol - which then usually results in a ban... *cough* crazy harry *cough* but the point is this, the community needs to grow up and respect each other, competitiveness and fair racing go hand in hand.

If you dont enjoy racing against "noobs" heres an idea - go make a private server and give your "friends" the password... then we don't have to put up with your go-damn awful whining in public servers...(but please feel free to come in when im drunk, that always makes me laugh)

Btw - to noobs out there, a small pointer - if your polite and cautious - you more than likely wont find any problems on the track, we all have accidents , we just learn to say sorry lmfao
ok so i only got an S2 lisence 2 days ago but the last 2 days ive been racing on the STCC servers but ive been getting some decent times around the SO town course only 1 second from the race leaders which are usually 1:43's in the XFG.
problem is people who keep ramming you what seems to be intentionally and then saying sorry for the 15th time they do it.
i was in a server half an hour ago and on turn 3 of the SO town regular track some guy nocks me from the right which bumps me into the rear of the guy in front, so i say sorry even tho it werent my fault. the guy i accidently bumped then chased me round the next few bends and down the straight befor the hairpin he spins me out on purpose like a police PIT manouver!!! argh
Quote from DasBoeseC :The so called 'noobs' are the fresh blood that LFS urgently needs!

Take care of them instead of accusing them of being 'noobs'.....

100% in agreement with you on that. None of us were born with the ability to anything; had to crawl before we could walk.

Someone should offer a LFS racing clinic for the new drivers to give them a head start instead of driving like "noobs" and getting silly posts and complaints about them. I run a motorcycle clinic with my local racing club, srrc.ca. We host clinics for new riders wanting to get into racing and its quite successful.

With LFS's spectator abilities, Im sure it would be quite easy for 2 high end drivers to instruct 10 or so newbies on the track and give them some pointers.
Thats a great idea, actually kind of along that idea - what about maybe a video guide to popular combos? if anybody thinks its a decent idea that might help some folk then i might get some done...

+1. If you're new to racing then this kind of support could be invaluable. There was a coaching school around at some point but it kinda faded out, but I always thought it was a good idea.

I'm not a long time LFS'er or anything, but it does seem as though people are maybe a bit harder on the 'noobs' than when I was starting out. Also there's just so much aggressive point blank 'buy S2' bullying around, again that seems to be increasing in intensity. LFS is known for it's great community, and these things just detract from that.

Feed the noob
"noobs" means "newbie" right? I just want to make sure. As I have only been racing a little over 1 month, I guess I am a "noob" nobody has ever offered to help me improve my race craft but I had a pretty good idea anyway. I've upset loads of people for having track position and being slow, I did get complimented by one chap who said I was a hard man to pass lol.

I understand im a new driver, I dont mind being called a "noob"
In my opinion noob and newbie are very different terms.

A newbie is someone new to something - everyone is a newbie at some point.
A noob is someone, of ANY experience, who does things only a newbie would do, or never learns, or refuses to learn, or who makes a newbie mistake.

Hence if Kev (thisnameistaken) understeers into a wall, I'll call him a noob, because he should know better than to understeer into a wall. But if you (radweld) understeered into a wall then I wouldn't call you a noob because you are a newbie and hence are allowed to make newbie mistakes.
