Using a proxy sock? [Unsolved]
During these past few days I was searching on the internet (and on the forum!) to get more informations about proxy sock and how to use it but without success.

So I was just wondering if it's possible to use a proxy sock (like a ssh tunnel) to ge my lfs work behind my firewall? I can't unlock ports because i don't have access to the firewall but using a proxy sock give me a full defiltered connection (IE, Msn, ...).

So is there a way to encapsulate the lfs connection into a sock connection (Possible under windows? Or with linux and wine then another soft) ? I heard about java program abel to do this? Anyone know more?

Is it possible with another type of connection (such as vpn)?

Is it planned to implement in lfs the proxy support?

Just a little detail: i'm in an internat so it's not to play on my job but to play at "home". Currently i can't play online with lfs at all . So thank you for your help!

P.S.: Currently i can list servers using 8080 for Master Port but still can't join the host.
There's plenty of applications which redirect all TCP/UDP packets through socks proxy.
The best is SocksCap and it works under windows. I've used it before with success. Very easy to configure and it supports socks4 and socks5 as well.
Thank you, i'm going to test it! It seems to be exactly what i was searching for
I've tested it but i still can't play online.

May be someone have the suffisant knowledge to solve my problem? Here is what's wrong:

I can list the server list (using 8080 in the .cfg).
I can (try to) "join" and go to the loading screen but a then end of the loading i receive an error: "Didn't receive the information of the guest, Connection lost." (Something like that, it's displayed in french for me).

Let's draw a map of my network:

[ Me ]---{ssh}---[ Serv1 ]---{vpn}---[ Serv2 ]
|
|
|
[ Serv3 ]
|
|
|
{ Internet }
|
| ____ to lfs ...
| |
[ Routeur@Home ]
| |
| |
[ Serv4 ]--

All Server are gentoo box. Rigthly configured

Serv1: The server is a relay for the vpn. Root on it. Nat, ip forward actived. All data come from port 22 (using SocksCap to encapsulate my data into a sock proxy on localhost) and go through the vpn.
Serv2: The gateway. Root on it. Vpn pass by to reach my server @ home.
Serv3: The real gateway (Serv2 is the gateway of the subnet where i am). No acces on it but vpn pass by.
Routeur@Home: Vpn pass by. Nat activated. I've also nat the port 63392 so it's possible for me to host a server (i should say it may be would work with luck)
Serv4: My server @home. Nat, ip_forward activated. All data come from the vpn then go back through my routeur to reach the internet. My routeur don't handle vpn, it's why it's like that.

In fact there is one other server (a Sun one) between Serv3 & Internet. The vpn is passing by using an connection without name (homemade). It work like a transparent relay. Don't ask more.

The vpn is working well: i can get unfiltered 24h/24 in stead of from 17pm-24pm internet using a proxy sock with ssh.

When i try to join a server on lfs there is activities on Serv4 (using iftop to watch).

So, why the hell isn't it working ?

P.S.: I hope there is all the informations needed
Huh
Seems iwon't play online fls for a while.
just the same problem as yours. looking for the solution
4 month later I found a way. It's rather complicated but maybe it can help some of yours.

I bought a server in another country. I put gentoo on it. I made a permanent connection between my network and the server wich give me an internet connection (with vpn). My computer is directly linked to my new server so evrything goes throw it. I also used Nat to be able to acces all i want and to be accesible but I think it's maybe not needed, some test will reveal it. I just unlocked the ports (wich i though was used by lfs) on my gentoo server but .. it doesnt worked So i just open a large range of ports on my server and it worked. Is not maximum of security but ... i dont care. LFS need some concesions.

Here is a little schem (simplified) to help the understanding:

[ My computer ] --(direct link)--> [ Gateway ] --( vpn )--> [ New Server ] ----> Internet

So everything is encapsuled into the vpn connection (wich was made default in routing table only for my computer using submasking network to give me my network into the network). LFS react as i was directly connected to internet.

I also must pass throw a filter but the filter can't handle an encrypted vpn so it just let it pass (off course i used an open port). I was glad to f**k this filter

So here it is, i can play all the online games i want. Offcourse it's working under windows but my lfs under linux work too. Its doesn't matter wich Os is running and it's a good point. I think i've told evrything. If help needed just ask but i thnk there is not much people in my case
