Older versions are NOT unlockable in their original state as the master server has changed address. The address was hard coded into the executables in previous releases.
The idea behind this is to beable to unlock previous versions for nostalgia-related reasons, or to show newer members of the community what LFS was like in the past.
I shouldn't have named the thread "unlockable S1" as, of course, S1 content is unlockable on newer versions.
In order to unlock you still use one from your unlock count, and thus you still require a licence. This doesn't circumvent the official systems in any way, shape or form. Infact it re-establishes a link between the older versions and the master.
If anyone has F, then I'm sure it could be arranged

I'm not sure what the deal is with the leaked 0.5F release, since nobody (beta testers aside) is supposed to have it anyway. I didn't realise it had the LX8 in it though, I've got it installed and am suddenly very tempted. I'll have to flag this one up with the devs.
I don't really see the harm in letting us have a bash at trying the LX8. Other than maybe generating some annoying "we want teh LX8"-threads.
I doubt it, those tyre physics pre-date the 0.5K physics, possibly even older than 0.5L physics (it's not like we have a changes-log to read), I can imagine it not handling that great. Remember the FO8 even with 0.5P tyres? It's probably not that fun. LX8 in 0.5X though... that's tempting. 
trust me driving it with that revision of the tyre physics is not worth the hassle

I already sent a mail to the devs, let's see what their point is, now after ther real S2 alpha is released... yeah, and the whole point of still having this release is the LX8

I'll probably get yelled at, but before the master server changed, you could unlock the patch F S2 and it would work.
And the devs knew exactly who had unlocked it, when, and whether they were a beta tester or not. I wouldn't be surprised if they were watermarked versions too so they knew whose version (i.e. which betatester) leaked it.

Fo' Sho, bring the LX8 in, make it a single car class (or even competible with the FOX?), let us have some fun.
Incorrect... I had this version unlocked and didn't have to go through the unlocking process.. just sort out a few files and voila! Unlocked. No need for it to contact the master server at all

Hmm. The standard files didn't seem to work for me.
Mine unlocked using my S1 info (S2 accounts hadn't been activated at that point IIRC so S1 info was the "only choice").
Either way, it was crap (but obviously an early beta that shouldn't have been leaked).. coming up through the last turns at BL1 to cross the line for example, the sky was all over the place.. black in areas, stretched across the track in others and don't remember the cars being too much fun to drive on that physics revision. LX6 now is far more fun than the LX8 was back then.
