this Rocks!

I've been a long-time GPL, GTR, GTR2, rFactor, NKPro....and tried the LFS demo yesterday. What can I say? After 15 mins I was reaching for the credit card.

This sim is really amazing....with 3 developers no less? Puts some of the "other" sims to shame.

One quick question - I have downloaded and licensed S2....what patch level is it at by default? I only found out today that I have to download and manually apply patches....

thanks a lot....great to part of this community.
Patch W is the latest version. We currently have a "test" patch W10 with some nice improvements in it (can be found in the test patch forum) but that's not guaranteed to be stable.

As new versions become available you'll be notified and be able to auto-download and install them via the multiplayer connection screen. But this feature came in (IIRC) with patch V, so if you have a version any earlier than that you'll have to manually download and install the latest version.
You can also see the currently installed version in the lower left corner when starting LFS.
Welcome to the community!

You'll find you only have to manually patch up to U (or is it V? I can't remember) and then it can auto-download/install the following patches when you hit the Find Multiplayer Games button. The current live patch is W.

There is also a test patch for W, but being a test patch you set yourself up for occasional bugs and unexplained changes and the like. And it's an incompatible one, so it will also restrict the number of servers you can join.

My suggestion would be to head to the Addons section and get the full collection of hi-res texture updates and the reflection mod. That'll have your copy of LFS looking pretty sweet in no time

Welcome to the LFS community, enjoy your stay
Hi.

Welcome aboard, enjoy your stay.

In LFS we have this thing called online racing.

Many users online no matter what time it is.

And no hassle with silly mods.

Drop me a line and let's have a race.

After first playing LFS I tried GTR2 at a friend's house and it felt like an arcade game in comparison.

I unfortunately have to disagree. Since I'm in the U.S. I typically have to play during the slow times, where there might be barely 100 people total online. That might seem like a lot in comparison, but when it's spread out over 700 servers it's really not much.
Well, what are you waiting for then???
Spread the news in the US, and you will have plenty of people..
I can't imagine that noone outside of Europe is interested to play a sim...

Woah woah woah! There's high res skins out there? Where can I sign up and put my new 8800GTX to the test?

I second that. Here in the US when I want to play there is usually no one online. That's why I'm glad I'm an insomniac so that way I can stay up until like 4AM when everyone comes back online.
I'm an insomniac too (i'm a night shift at work) so i like to race in late European ours, that is about 10, 11 pm in America i guess, so get off your buts and race, i am there...
Had an amazing couple of races on "Core" server couple of days ago (regards to Core people ), really clean racing, and i think most of the guys were from US, really clean drivers, i'm impressed, so get on that server more often guys, i stopped by after that and there was no one in that time these days...

And welcome David!

Here's a secret: It's not that hard to be an insomniac when you've got hundreds of thousands of diodes flashing at your face. AKA your monitor

enjoy your stay means that he'll be leaving soon. I bought LFS and I'm going to stay on the bandwagon until the end (I wish I could say the same for the NHL's Vancouver Canucks).
Welcome to LFS!

As others have said, the majority of LFS players are in Europe so online player numbers tend to peak during the evening in Europe and tend to fall to their low point during the evening in North America. However, you can find good, fun racing on the STCC servers throughout the day. I can't recommend the STCC servers highly enough.
