Quote from Serpentine :I'm sure your apology from Tristan will be along shortly.

Imo apology's are not needed when the comment reflects the personality of the person who makes a comment like that. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but it's wrong to judge something too quick off the bat, because you just might be wrong

@ Albieg: They where abit slow yes
Quote from CSU1 :Last Sat night policeman knocks on the door:

Sorry to join the sceptics here...but did anybody notice the DATE on the summons? Considering that they had the address, why did they wait over SIX months before grabbing your collar?

Beats me m8 maybe they noticed that a full year might tick over on the offence, so they payed me a lil visit.
Quote from tristancliffe :Yes I am suggesting that. I very very much doubt the police behave like that. Also, such a case would go in front of a magistrates court first (and I think the same applies in Ireland), you'd have a solicitor, and the policeman would be called as a witness, and thus not be able to speak or be interrupted.

If it WASN'T copied and pasted off another site then you simply made it up.

Sorry.

trust me mate,Irish cops can be proper pricks, not saying that story was for-deffinate but they do have an attendancy to behave in that way
i'm skeptical.

around here if you speak out of turn in court you are held in contempt (meaning additional fines or even jail time).

Since the Patriot Act, legalisation of torture as a means of interrogation and Guantanamo Bay have all happened in "THE land of the FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!", I've no doubt it's true of Ireland.

Unless you scanned that summons off teh internets...
Why the hell is everybody just assuming he's lying? You're a ****ing weird bunch sometimes. The fact that I'm saying that makes it truer.
When I first read the title I though this thread was about little green men

What a disappointment

Not everybody, Kev. I admit I'm also baffled at the seeming refusal to believe CSU's post, most particularly in this day and age. Has nobody seen 1984?? More to the point, has nobody seen Brazil!?!?
My contribution:

"They came to take me away"

Why didn't they keep you?

1984 & Brazil ftw Great book, great films. And hey presto, it's happening before our very eyes but so slowly (and so carefully stage-managed) that we won't know it until we're doing our daily Two Minutes Hate over a cuppa char and a chocky digestive with that hottie from down the hall.

As for your actual comment, I don't get it either. Stranger things have happened in police history - like that unfortunate bugger who got mistakenly nailed by the police THUG (Thick-Headed Uptight Goon) unit on the tube last year. Hell, after that grotesque fsck-up (and subsequent attempted cover-up), I'll happily take CSU's word for it and urge him to thank [insert deity or sheer chance here] that he got off without a boomheadshot!
Quote from tristancliffe :Nicely copied and pasted.

By the way, police can't touch you for driving offences that long (a year) after a misdemeanor.

I wouldn't be too sure on that Tristan, I have had personal experiance of it
I've read 1984, and Homage to Catalonia ranks as my second favourite book of all time (Orwell is my main influence when talking about writing and journalism). I quote Orwell constantly because he was an enemy of obscure writing, always asking for a neat, terse prose when somebody has to convey a message.
For the record I'm not questioning CSU1's credibility. I'm not interested in doing such a thing: I'm suggesting that his writing, along with the lack of documentation, could lead to this kind of misunderstanding. Let's face it: the way he reported the facts (especially the officer asking him to shut up and simply saying "I agree") is confusing.
I assume CSU1 didn't make it up, but I am quite certain that if CSU1 had told all the facts precisely from the start without rushing them his word wouldn't have been doubted. So, in this case, I'd bring up (again...) Politics and the English Language, Homage To Catalonia and Shooting an Elephant more than 1984 or other black Utopias.
cSu - Did you get a spanking from a Bangharda too?
Well, taking a look at the original post, it really seemed strange. But as it turned out, it seems to be a rather common thing over there and since you posted that nice letter, I guess I can believe you now

Bangharda - Oi! get away from that hot dog stand bin(drunk with lighter in-hand frantically trying to light it in the rain)

/me shoves lighter down me jocks and leggs it pi**ing myself laughing. She caught up with my comic left to right drunkin attempt at an escape. She smacks me on the back of the legs with her torch and retrieves said fire making apperatus My mates thought it was all so funny. it was

Dude, you should come over to our neck of the woods and see how the professionals do it. This place is getting out of hand.

I have to say when they started with the old "Ooh, watch out, terrorists!" routine again a few years ago my first thought was of how Brazil it all was.
