Server fails to start on my Root
Ok guys, maybe someone else has this problem?

I just installed the new W version and since then I can no more start my LFS servers. Always interrupting the start-up with the message "Probable error in graphics driver".

I found some topics describing to update graphics-driver and so on. BUT: it is a dedicated root server. It has of course no graphics driver and I don't even want to install specific drivers.

And of course a "dedicated" server version should not complain about any graphics setting on a server. So, someone has a solution for this?
I just updated to patch W on a machine here which has no Direct3D capability and it worked fine, it has onboard graphics and support for basic DirectX in 2D but cant open a 3D canvas - so I figure the dedicated host is not opening DirectX but that your machine maybe doesnt even have a base driver for the display adapter at all, perhaps?
Im guessing you replaced setup.cfg, remember to re-set this value:

//nogfx/invisible
/dedicated=invisible

Yes, there isn't even a base-driver installed.. Anyways it worked before the patch

@felplacerad: Nope, this value is also set..
Try running the setup.cfg on a windows machine, it might be someting wrong with it (invalid integers). I can try it for you if you attach it.

My W servers are running just fine, cmdline:

wineconsole --backend=curses LFS.exe /cfg=setup.cfg

It's also continuing to work fine here - as you can see ogHosts #1 is running W and it's running under an X-less and custom compiled version of Wine. Haven't changed a thing.

Are you sure the config is the same?
Well, I surely changed nothing in my configuration

Of course I need to say, they are running native on a Windows 2003 server.

Here is one of my setup.cfg. The others look the same
/host=^1Octrin.^7Racing Public
/admin=********
/port=58001
/insim=59001
/mode=s2
/usemaster=yes
/track=AS2
/weather=1
/cars=UF1
/maxguests=23
/carsmax=20
/carshost=1
/carsguest=1
/pps=4
/qual=20
/laps=10
/wind=0
/dedicated=nogfx
/vote=yes
/select=no
/rstmin=60
/rstend=30
/autokick=spectate
/midrace=yes
/mustpit=no
/canreset=no
/start=finish
/welcome=welcome.txt

Ok I assumed you were running it on a linux machine. I can't really help you then, except letting you know that there's nothing wrong with your config.
Continues to work fine under Windows 2003 server, standard, web edition and enterprise here.

May I suggest that something has changed with your box
its running fine on Win 2k3 server here.

I can only assume something has changed on the box itself.
Nope, my box is running in the same config since the last Windows update. And even after that the old V servers worked fine...

This is getting really strange...
Have you tried /dedicated=invisible rather than nogfx ?

Just a thought, although i'm still clueless other than perhaps Scawen opening a DirectDraw canvas which isn't needed?
Yes tried that also, because I thought of a similar problem.. But does not make any effect.
Does nobody has another idea? Scawen, where are you????
You've probably already fixed this problem by now, but I might aswell post this anyway.

I know whenever I reinstall Server 03 and all of the drivers for the gfx + Dx update I need to change the Hardware acceleartion back to full to allow LFS to boot. Although you say you are running as a dedicated server, im not really sure if it will help much here.

But if you can, bump up the hardware acceleration in your Display properties and see if that solves anything

Its under Advanced / Troubleshoot
Oha, that's a good idea, forgot to look for this. I'll do and report back!
No news yet.. the above suggestion didn't work as well..

SCAWEN!!! WHERE ARE YOU?
I am sorry to say this but I am not sure what you are expecting Scawen to do about this? There's obviously nothing (very ) wrong with his software since hundreds of people are running servers ranging from U30 to W12.
Pretty weird I was kinda hoping that would of fixed it

Are you running SP1/SP2, if any at all?

What graphics chip/card is in the machine? And which drivers are you using?

Do you have DX installed, latest version?
i know this might be an extremely stupid question and its highly unlikely. but we all make mistakes.

are you certain you downloaded the DEDICATED server for patch W..... even if you think you did. can you do it again and just try it? who knows. because i am out of ideas http://www.liveforspeed.net/fi ... hp?name=LFS_S2_DEDI_W.zip
Oh my god :/ Franky...

Well, I actually had downloaded the dedicated server, but for some reason re-copying the files to the servers fixed the problem -.- Oh my f.... god, am I that stupid?

Ok, thanks a lot to all of you for kicking my brain's ass
hehe. we all do it.... well not all of us.. most.. some..... a nice few of us do it

Glad it now works... sometimes it is something so simple... and YAY i got something right (sort of ).

Did any of you try the latest version of wine? If you have, did you find a way around the 'ooch somebody beat us' bug?
If you haven't, do not upgrade your wine! It sucks this version (wine-0.9.35).

That doesn't sound good... I'm on 0.9.32 atm, but I'm due to be moving them across to my new box sometime this week (if uk2 get their arses in gear) so I'm sure I'll find out then

You might want to try invoking Wine this way
wineconsole --backend=user ....

I read that, but 'user' actually tries to open a window if I understood correctly, so that won't work. It's the curses option that keeps things 'consoled'.
But I reverted to 0.9.32 now - problem 'solved'
