Joystick as gear shift
Hi
I have seen in other forum people wich uses joystick as H gear shifts with programs like FFShifter and Virtual H Shifter. What do you think about? Have anyone here tryied it? I am considering to buying some cheap joystick, it looks so easy...

I'm using FFShifter with my Microsoft Sidewinder ForceFeedback 2 joystick everytime I play LFS and other racing games, and it's really great.

With a clutch and a good wheel, the realism is awesome.

If you're ready to modify how you're driving on lfs (and to be slower at first because it adds some difficulty), buying a good stick is worth it.
Thanks for your answer Ricou
Is necesary to do some hand work or it can be used just with FFShifter? How much costs the cheaper joystick with force feedback?

I don´t matter to be a bit slower, I prefer a realistic driving than a faster but more false one :smash3d:
I have done it. Its not bad with Virtual H Shifter. I did not have a FFB Joystick, so I modified my MS Sidewinder (non FFB) to become stiff and to hold in place. Worked well im pleased to say
Thanks
Well, what system did you invented to become it stiff and hold on a possition?
The only I have seen is something like that:

I did not use a system . Just modified it inside by taking the bottom panel on mine out. Then used a small peice of plastic to make the gap almost non existant between the bottom of the stick and the base of the unit.

Then used the Virtual H shifter for the shifting.... Not a wonderful way but couldnt be bothered to buy a FFB Joystick
I bought an used joystick for 2.5€ and tryied it with Virtual H Shifter and works fine. It only needs a bit of work for become a decent H shifter

Thanks very much, I will try it with a FF joystick later
