From Ati radeon 9600 to gforce 7600gs, low fps
I've just installed my gforce 7600gs, and reinstalled my computer. Now lfs runs with less fps than before, averaging 20, making it unplayable.

I have the newest forceware drivers, and all settings are tried both high and low, making no difference except for look of game.

In lfs, trees, sky, rubber and shadows are off, res 1280x1024@75hz.

Before i did have rubber and shadows, and could run about 50-60 fps at same res.

3ghz p4 HT
1gig ddr
gforce 7600gs 256mb ddr
Win XP SP2 fresh install, all drivers fully updated. (DX 9.0c)

Hope someone can give me a clue, to why my new graphiccard runs worse than my old and slower.
#2 - Jakg
is HVS enabled?
reset bios.I saw at Guru3d forum a long ago exactly the same problem and nothing helped that guy untill someone posted to reset bios and then there was everything fine.

Might be also some drivers issue thougth.Did you uninstall previous drivers 1st, then reboot and installed generic VGA drivers and then installed NVIDIA drivers? If not, would be worth to do that.

EDIT:just read it again ans you said fresh install so doesnt look like driver issue but what driver version you have anyway?
i am using a geForce FX Go5200 with 32/64mb ram on my laptop and the game just runs fine. even with hires grafics.

what kind of processor do you have?
#5 - neRu
3ghz p4 HT
1gig ddr ram

I just dont see, how the reset bios thing would make my graphic go better?

And i cant enable HVS in LFS, i only have one advanced graphic option.

XP was fresh install, and then installed the nvidia drivers, so that should also be fine.
Have you installed chipset drives for your mainboard?

Sometimes the BIOS needs to be reset as it may have some specific options for nvidia or ati cards, it may be locked to your older ati settings and until it resets to the nvidia, may be running slower....
i use the same card, had the same kinda prob...
with the orig drivers, in the settings, u need to adjust some screen settings, optimize it to gamers, in lfs there's a thing u can adjust from 8/16/24/32
use ethe highest, what card is it?? 256mb agp/pci or 512agp/pci
#8 - neRu
256mb agp.

Its on 24 i think, 8 and 32 is gray (unchoosable)

What do you mean you can't enable HVS? The option should be there and enabled. If it isn't there please provide a screenshot.

Hmm that's very strange. Patch W it's there but I just checked W17 and it's not there and I can't find it.
Disable fast writes in the BIOS.7600 cards use bridge chip from PCI-E to AGP and it on many systems just slow down the machine as this bridge has problem with fast writes enabled.

Also please could you install Rivatuner program and run "Graphic subsystem diagnostic report" and post the results here .If I will not find anything wrong with that then I will replay to do what is in my post beůlow with BIOS reset.

Please write down the setting you have in your bios and then turn of your computer.Unplug the power cable and reset the bios. Then set up the bios as before. The BIOS reset will not do anything wrong to your system.

I know it looks weird but sometimes the BIOS recognize the new hardware "halfway" .BIOS is also software so it can have bugs

Just for referecne a links with low scores and after BIOS reset its ok.I could found more similar issues in this forum and BIOS reset helped many times.

How does the card perform in other games?
#16 - J.B.
Why hasn't anyone mentioned driver cleaner yet?
#17 - neRu
If driver-cleaner does what it sounds to do, then i'm not interested. It's a fresh XP SP 2 install, with standard windows vga-drivers when i installed the geforce-driver.

I really haven't played other games, i'm not that much of a gamer.
#18 - J.B.
Well the fact that LFS doesn't detect your GPU properly does indicate that something may be wrong with your installation. I would do driver cleaner --> GPU and Mainboard driver install --> directx install --> LFS fresh install

Is that what you wanted?

Looks fine to me regarding card is running in AGP8x mode, fastwrites disabled.Could you try with AG SBA(Sideband adressing) disabled?

What drivers version you have for your graphic card, chipset.
Howe powerfull is your PSU?
hmm i made the same change, from radeon 9600 pro to 7600GS (256 mb AGP).
i noticed i lost some fps (maybe 5-10) but i can play every game with full AA/AF without any fps loss what wasnt possible with the radeon.
i tried tweaked drivers, the newest forceware drivers and they all did seem to give me worse fps.
so im still using the drivers that came with the card
just make sure every ATI related stuff is uninstalled.
#21 - neRu
My problem has mysteriously disappeared.

Things i have done:
Reset bios
AGP Aperture size 64 mb
Fastwrite disabled
Reinstalled mobo drivers in xp

When my radeon card was at 50~60 fps before, this is now 70-80, but at hard load, for example 9 cars in front of my, it drops to 25, where the old only went down to ~30-35.

where are these options?
